After playing some games and experimenting with a ton of list building, I think the point costs for these are way off. I don't think Rhinos and Drop Pods offer enough for their points while Razorbacks seem like such a bargain. When building lists, I always just end up finding a way to shave points to take the Razorback over the Rhino. As far as Drop Pods go, I am not even sure I would take them if they cost half as much. All the units I would like to put in a Drop Pod are no longer an option. Maybe it is different for the Blood Angels, Space Wolves, etc. But for regular Space Marines, seems like a points waste.

Yes, Drop Pods are more expensive now because it's 100% safe and guaranteed to hit, no more even remote possibility of it cocking up. That's why they can't hold dreadnoughts anymore.

Don't forget transports all got a huge boost in that they are a lot harder to kill and you can't immobilise and disable them anymore.

But again, why take a Rhino when you can take a Razorback with a good weapon for a nominal points increase? What are you putting in the Drop Pod? No more Cents or Dreadnoughts. Maybe Devastors? But that just puts them in the line of fire and makes them a suicide squad. You are basically paying for Deepstrike because the Drop Pod is worthless. It can't even hold objectives all that well given it is just one model. Maybe in Maelstrom they are ok.

6 models vs 10 models is not an insignificant difference for transport capability. As a Wolves player, the ability to get 10 models into charge range ASAP is valuable in it's own right. Granted the Wolves are more melee focused than normal marines so I have different priorities than you. And while Storm Bolters definitely aren't Lascannons, being able to throw 8 dice of bolter fire (for 4 extra pts) at anything within 12" certainly makes it a pretty good distraction for the rest of your army.

This in a nutshell.
To me a Razorback is a Predator that keeps to the outskirts and might do some transportation work in the late game.
A Rhino is a shot sponge that delivers 10 melee hungry Wolves to the front lines then does the same job as a Razorback if it happens to survive.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

I tried posting about this problem earlier, people just crapped on my post telling me I was wrong. Despite watching youtube videos from experts on the subject. I have a pod army. Infuriated that yet again the Angel of Death fluff is ignored.

Drop pods should reflect the fluff. They should land ontop of units like an orbital strike marines should be able to rapidly deploy out of the pod with bolters roaring and chainswords hacking apart what is left.

Only then will it justify the point cost.

Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind." -Jiddu Krishnamurti world renowned champion of peace. They may work out better for the other Astartes armies. I acknowledged that in the original post. But for Space Marines, there is a a discrepancy in cost amongst the transports versus their in-game value.

I would love if they had an out-of-the-box shooting attack that was effectively an Orbital Bombardment.

As for the Transports, it is really between the Rhino and Razorback anymore. The fact the Rhino can heal itself should never be discounted. It can mean the difference between shooting at a 4+ and a 3+. The Razorback trades that for some pretty cheap firepower. I am going to run two Razorbacks and one Rhino. Drop Pods are too expensive for what they do.

Rhinos can hold two units - so you can effectively deploy three units with a single placement, giving you more chance to get turn 1.

Is this a special rule? I cannot find it.
I thought that a single unit can fit into a transport, with as many characters are will fit.
Combat Squad looks to happen at deployment, and there was no mention of transports there.

The base Transport rules allows you to add any number of any type of units into a transport, as long as the model count fits.

You're thinking of fortifications - for fortifications they only allow 1 unit plus X characters

There's no more "only one unit" limit for transports. If it says "transport capacity 10 models, may carry <CHAPTER> Infantry", then that's exactly what it means. A 10-man Tactical squad fits the bill, but so does a 5-man Sternguard squad, three Honor Guard, a Captain and a Techmarine.

I think this also increased the value of transports a fair amount. Being able to bring a 9 man squad + an HQ or other combination can be super deadly, even for generic Space Marines.
