Says they can take weapons now from the ranged weapons list, unsure?

List which is> bolt pistol, boltgun and plasma pistol

Just says ranged though, where does it limit?

It's not referring to the points list at the back of the book, it's referring to the "Wargear" page at the front of the AM index section. The ranged weapon list there consists of bolt pistol, plasma pistol, bolter.

Unless the Imperial Armor book added lasguns to that list? For some reason the Imperial Armor book's formatting is busted on the reader I'm using and it won't display images, so I can't see the wargear page in it (the datasheets, amusingly enough, are highly formatted text, so I can read them as text that is badly mangled from having its formatting stripped away).

They said the sergeant couldn't have a lasgun, so I gave him a lascannon instead

The page with wargear on dark box with old IG codex art. On left orders etc. Seems kinda needed information for IG army.

But this is a question that has come up for most armies since 6th.

People would always ask about weapons or wargear from the index in the back of the book interacting with models that couldn't get them because the data sheet gave them a choice from the "ranged weapons list"; which had all the weapons in the back, but a far more limited list before the datasheets(exactly like now).

Death Korps sergeants start with them.

And can buy hot-shot lasguns.

Tempestus Scion sergeant can only replace with his starting hot shot las-pistol with a bolt pistol or plasma pistol oddly enough.

Meanwhile the lowly infantry sergeant can get a boltgun, but not a lasgun.

That seems rather out of wack to me. Is it too much to ask to be able to equip my sergeants the same as their troopers?

I'm sure there's just some sort of image they want the squad leaders to portray with the sword and pistol look.

I remember the Elysian Sarges used to use Lasguns as their stock over the pistol, glory days are over in this ed :(.

To be fair, a villain (aesthetics aside) is a full upgrade to a lasgun. Bolt pistol isn't worth it (again, aesthetics aside) while plasma pistols are always welcome.

Personally, I would love sergeants to have lasguns. However, giving them boltguns is close enough...

I am just picturing cadians running into combat chucking deathstorm missiles every turn and ork boyz wielding titan close combat weapons in the most ridiculous match ever played
