My vanilla marine armies need fliers. I have 2 stormtalon/stormhawk kits.

I want them to be able to both handle anti-air, but also provide anti-troop fire support.

On paper, the interceptors seem superior. They have +1 toughness and reroll saves.

I guess it depends on whether T7 is more important than hover.

I don't see what benefit hover brings that is worth moving from T6 to T7.

Keep in mind that both flyers will suffer -1 to hit if they move, so the Stormhawk is not especially accurate if it shoots at ground targets or even other flyers. It does carry a lot of weapons, though, and it's pretty tough, so it's not all bad.

The Stormtalon has the option to hover and not move, which allows it to avoid the -1 to hit penalty and therefore it will hit ground targets on a 2+. I think the Stormtalon is the better all-around choice, in that you can drop into any army against any opponent and it will have useful things to do. The Stormhawk is a little more niche but if you plan your army around it it can contribute.

I feel like the stormtalon's interceptor rule is a copy paste error. Give the previous iteration and its general design role, its a ground support craft and should probobly have the strafing run rule (like the darktalon has). The stormhawk is the aa variant.

I wouldnt be surprised if this got faqd

Their Interceptor rules are different; and reflect the individual bird's specific roles.

Stormhawk says +1 tohit against targets that can FLY.

Stormtalon says +1 to hit against targets that cannot FLY.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

It seems fairly clear that the title of the Stormtalon's Interceptor rule is the typo - it should almost certainly be Strafing Run.

Not that it matters; all the special rules are defined by the unit data sheet they're on - you can probably expect two different data sheets with the same rule to have the same effect (and I expect that's the designers' intent), but ultimately, they don't have to.

Glad to help! I have two of each flyer and I love to use them. The Stormhawk is especially useful against Eldar, due to their tendency to take Flying units.
