Well, there is stuff called liquid masking, which is brush on fluid that drys rubbery, so it can be peeled off after painting.

There are also professional grade airbrush masking tapes. Not sure how good these would be for fiddly miniatures, though.

Tamiya and other modeling companies make great masking tape. I've used Tamiya with spray painting in the past and it works just great. You can get it in varying sizes on amazon.

I can definitely recommend Tamiya tape, it's low-tack and made for the purpose. However, I've recently used foil that's meant to be cut by a cutting plotter and put as signage on cars or windows. This - in combinatiion with just touching the adhesive surface with my thumb serveral times before applying it to the model, worked great as well.

Tamiya tape is the gold standard and should be in anyone's toolbox if they're airbrushing. Liquid mask is usefull as well, but not for straight lines. Silly putty and blue tack are great too, especially for hard-edge camouflage.

Also, make sure everything has properly cured before applying any masking or you could have issues with paint lifting.

See if you can get your hands on some Parafilm Laboratory Tape. It's much better than masking tape in my opinion; there's no glue, so it doesn't leave any residue, but it sticks firm and comes off clean. Only downside is the price and how hard it is to get in small quantities.
