I don’t know what to do about this guy as death. I can’t blob him with skeletons, I watched him kill 20 in a single round before battle shock. I don’t know what death unit canout DPS him. His mobility is rather insane with him popping between forests, and his -2 to hit ignores 1 rend makes it so most my dps can’t kill him. Any wound I do plink off him will just get healed too, effectively making it so trying to bracket him is a waste of time. I don’t even think a mourngul will kill him, or effectively bog him down.

How do I deal with this guy?

Speaking from experience here, a Mourngul won't have much trouble tying up Durthu. It's also worth noting that that -2 to hit is from an artifact (Briarsheath) and the ignores 1 rend is from a command trait (Gnarled Warrior). Basically, your opponent has put all his eggs in that particular basket. It may be best just to ignore it and look to the rest of his force. Stay away from Wyldwoods as best you can to keep him from popping up next to you, or just throw a Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon at him.

You could also try putting small units around the Wyldwoods so he can't teleport to them.

How do the limitations on that work?
Also, can’t he just make another one somewhere for free of the current Woods are tied up?

Models travel via World Roots need to be placed within 3" of a Wyldwood and more than 9" away from enemy models. And yes, he can summon another Wyldwood, but it must be more than 1" away from all other models. This includes friendly models and scenery. Given the large footprint of a Wyldwood, it's a lot easier than you would think to space out your units in such a way as to prevent him from summoning effectively, especially as death since you can have lots of large battleline units if you want.

Like Entyme said you can't teleport within 9" of an enemy models and the only things I can think of that make woods all need to be fairly close to a wizard so they shouldn't give too much mobility with the 9" blocking.

Keep in mind this is a ~400 point model with an artifact and command trait; there is a lot going into that model and it is going to fight accordingly. The best way to deal with him is outside of wyldwood range, tying him up (mourngul/spirit hosts work well here) and mortal wounding him to death. His sword only does 6 damage at his highest bracket, so a few wounds on him go a long way into nerfing his attack power. Also a vampire lord's soul blight is helpful since Durthu doesn't actually have that many attacks.

More than 3" from a wyldwood, with soul blight and 3 wounds on him a Durthu is only putting out an average of 3.7 wounds (before saves) in a round of melee. Obviously all three of those can be hard to get but you can see how dramatically his effectiveness drops.

Under a pile of plastic and boxes.

I have had good luck with using spirit hosts on tougher enemies. 6's to hit are mortal wounds, and a min squad of 3 bases are 18 attacks, 36 attacks for a squad of 6. They also ignore all rend and have a 4+ save.

Swarm it with a bucket of dice.

6s won't do mortals if there's a penalty to hit.

I just reread the OP, I missed the -2 to hit. You are correct!
