Some interesting stuff here.

I actually like the Smite changes and the change to character targeting makes a lot of sense to me.

Both make sense and generally awesome. Much speculated at on various podcasts and stuff.

Should *maybe* be an exception to the smite thing for armies that do mini-smites like Grey Knights...

Remember they're Beta Test rules. Try them, apply them and feed back to GW! They're in a listening mood.

Yes, I think from now on I will use these in games.

Already fed back to the new FAQ email address about the Tallarn Ambush debate we've been having!!

Try it and feedback to them -

I like the changes and I like that they have created a well-defined update schedule. Good job GW on this one.

Daemons will hopefully have decent (varying) psychic powers on their own without having to resort to cheap smite spammers. Totally kills horrors in competition. As a nurgle player, no puss off my wounds...

For some armies, that smite change adds more book keeping and keeping track. Which is something they were trying to get away from. This feels like a step back (even though it calms down the power a bit).

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

The Smite change tells me that Smite isn't meant to be your primary offensive ability regardless of which army you're running.

Then do not limit other psychic powers to only one attempt per Phase, just extend the BETA Smite rule to each power (with the exception that identical powers do not stack) and magically you won't have psykers being mortal wound batteries (they can only cast Smite after all)

Or take a more balanced list that doesn't rely entirely on psychic powers for damage.

You can't understand a gak then. I want psykers to be support characters but with this Rule of One nonsense they will NEVER be picked for anything else other than Smite

I don't think any duplicate casting of other spells is a good idea. You're easily going to trip into broken combo territory even with the negatives.

Disappointed with how they're handling Forgeworld. They'll mess with the point values, but they won't actually FAQ anything. Half measures that show that they really have no cohesion between their studios, and no intention of developing any. Either adopt FW in it's entirety, or leave it be, because they're clearly of two different minds when it comes to actually writing the rules. And this decision only serves to emphasize how half-assed their handling of FW was in Chapter Approved.

Those Smite beta rules are really great.

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

Steps in right direction but psychics still non-scalable. Ah well. Not expecting better scaling psychic rules until 9th or 10th edition at best.

But anything reducing mortal wound spam is good thing.

Yeah I'll just take a different thousand sons list that doesn't have all those OP spammed psyker characters

HQ: no HQs.

Troops: Tzaangors in auxiliary detachments

Elites: Helbrutes

Heavy Support: Predators

that seems much more healthy and fluffy, thanks!

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Alternative take on the phase I want to pop out: All uses of a power must be declared at once, for each use beyond the first apply a -1 penalty which applies to all tests when made.

I've had my eye on a Tsons army for ages, but the rule of one kinda kicks them in the nuts for what would make them an otherwise interesting army. This seems like a more risky option that still allows for armies with a dozen sorcerers in it to actually do something, since some of them have that naturally.

Not really if you can't cast the same power on the same unit
