I have primaris from the dark imperium box and was thinking about converting them to chaos marines because the current line of chaos marines are frankly garbage.
I heard the forge world shoulder pads fit, but I'm wondering how the chaos backpacks look, if they look too small. Has anyone done this conversion that has pictures?

I'm planning on making the interceptors into raptors, hellblasters into chosen, and intercessors into berserkers.

I believe the backpacks, helmets and shoulder pads are all the same size between new and old marines.

Putting raptor packs on an interceptor would probably not look the best, however, so say nothing of the fact that it would require a lot of work. The jump packs they have are part of the sculpt of their body and there's no clean separation between the pack and the armour from a modeling perspective.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Back pack heads and shoulder pads will work.

your only problem is going to be all the molded on eagles and seals.

nothing a bit of elbow grease cant fix but its something to consider.

Yeah those do not look easy without a lot of cutting and molding. I was actually going to leave the jump packs they already had. Really only change the weapons. Pistol and chainsword for raptors, or lightning claws for warp talons.

If you have the oldest kind of chaos backpack, they are slightly larger, and fit the primaris nicely :
Spoiler:

Noise marine backpacks also work nicely, I think they are about the same width as a regular chaos backpack...

I scraped and filed a few primaris eagle's off when I was testing to see if they could be good Alpha Legion models. It's not too hard, but like you said it's mostly just a matter of time and effort.

The issue I had is the chest plate without the aquila seems a little bland and a little too Stormcast-y. If I was going to take the time I would try sculpting or maybe finding some kind of decal or Shapeways applique piece for the breastplate.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Cut the edge around the skull, shave it off, a little run with the file to smooth out the breastplate.
