Is it even worth it to pick up some of the old races? They seem to be fully moving away from them and moving to the focused "original" factions, of which I am not a fan of any of them. I am interested in High Elves and the Original Green Skins, but without model updates, and what appears to be slowly dying rules is it even worth it?

Depends how much you like them. I play Dwarfs because I spent time and money building the army and I love the faction. But it's pretty lame when your best hope for the faction is that you won't be cut completely.

I wouldn't worry too much about legacy armies being cut. What's currently on the web store is likely going to be around for a while. Some will even get the Daughters of Khaine and Sylvaneth treatment with updated models and full battletomes. Many of the rest even got army rules in GHB 2017, and I wouldn't be surprised to see these further updated in the yearly release.

my issue is, where are the reavers? Bolt Throwers?

i don't want to have to scour ebay for models to actually play an army

Then you shouldn't play a legacy army.

The days of whfb are behind us now by a few years. Legacy armies are just that. If you go into it knowingly then you know that you will have to supplement some of the models on your own through ebay or conversion or sculpting on your own.

Though with the rpg coming out, some might still happen due to that?

so am I the only one who isn't a fan of most of the new models?

Not at all, but you have to accept that that is the look of the game now. If you want to get in to the game of course, there's always the option of not.

You have three options:

1) Pick a supported faction, with all the new models with the new aesthetic and the advantages of the active support that entails (battalions etc).

2) Pick a legacy faction, with limited rules support and possibly needing to scour the secondary market for certain models. Also accept they may reboot the faction properly in the future, and if they do the new models will fit with the new aesthetic.

3) Decide that this is not the game for you.

Option four: Intermix factions. There exist formations/battletomes that allow or even encourage mingling WHFB-vintage models with AoS-era models (the Sylvaneth formation that brings Sisters of the Thorn springs to mind, though I don't follow AoS closely and I'm sure there are others).

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Intermixing factions is fun. I run 'Dispossessed' and legacy Dwarfs. Although I do just call them Dwarfs.
