The first trailer for Luca Guadagninos Suspiria remake just released. I was rather fond of the original and this looks like a pretty solid re envisioning. I'm not a big fan of the horror genre but I'll probably see this.

I see they went for a different and more "restrained" cinematography compared to the outlandish colors of the original. Probably is for the best. Not easy to reproduce and probably not suitable for modern audiences. Looks good and creepy, time will tell. The presence of Tilda is always a plus.. sometimes movies are worthy just for her. She always gives the best .

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

Well, The Neon Demon kind of already did a modernized version of that style to a degree. They probably wanted to avoid it being similar. I kind of like the dark/cold/wintery bleak look to this, it seems to be working along with the vintage 70s feel.
Doesn't come out till Nov 2 though, so plenty of time to wait.

Good point.
That was a good one, too. Unsettling, but good.

New trailer for this due out this week, maybe even tomorrow. Will update when it drops. This movie already got its hard R rating, and is 152 minutes long. I'm pretty happy with that length, means it will be a slow burn, have plenty of time to develop its characters and explore the world, without rushing from one gory scene to the next like so many other horror films.

It's funny because I like Suspiria (watched in a theater pretty recently), I rather liked the Neon Demon, but the trailers here leave me rather cold.
And while I feel like in both Suspiria (the original) and The Neon Demon, there are pretty strong and rather unusual artistic parti-pris in the lights and colors, in this remake I feel like the visual aspect is very classic and frankly, very uninteresting.
"Our fantasy settings are grim and dark, but that is not a reflection of who we are or how we feel the real world should be. [...] If [you don't feel the same way], you will not be missed"

I have my own reservations about this movie, mostly cause I am not very familiar with this director. I know he received some praise for his last movie but I didn't see it. I still like the bleak colors, it reminds me of possession, or some of those as you say classic films. But later in the trailer you can see the moments were there are dashes of some primary colors. I think the shocking/climatic moments of the film will stand out in color. The script was leaked and I did read some of it, and it actually deviates quite a bit. I'd say its more a re-imagining or homage, not a remake at this point. I think they tried to capture a similar strange atmosphere though.
Apparently amazon is getting sued over this movie, several images/visuals had to be edited out of the film because it was a bit too inspired by some modern artwork.
Kind of bummed stuff is being cut out, cause the stuff in question was pretty visually interesting. Hopefully only the 2 things got removed and the 8 more that came up in question are left alone.
Probably gonna see this halloween night, or the weekend if I can. It's still limited release for now. The soundtrack is quite good on its own, probably one of the best of the year but I can't say for sure without knowing how its worked into the film cause thats what really counts. I'm hoping I'll be happy with this cause I kinda need it. Aside from annihilation and mandy this has been an incredibly dull year for me.
Just got out from seeing this one. I liked it all the way through but it wasnt until the ending or climax that I started thinking I might love it. Its definitely a slow burn, the horror elements are sparse but well done. I could see why its so divisive. Not sure its my favorite movie of the year but it would make the top three.
