since this is my first post on dakkadakka i dont know if this is the right place but i wanted a different look for my IG army.
since my regiment has a general sci-fi look i wanted to make my leman russ battle tanks grav vehicles but i dont know how to accomplish this.
i was personally thinking about using a tau devilfish body and putting the turret on the body of the devilfish.
but mayby you guys have better ideas for making a grav-leman russ since i'm only doing ''conversions'' for about half a year.

hope you guys can help me.

I think going to.a devilish is too big a change from the imperial.aesthetic. people would forever be asking you why you had a tau tank in your imperial force.

I got a more modern/Hi tech look for my russes by combining chimeras chassis with a predator turret. If you want to to make it grav look at how the repulsor does it for the land raiders.

You could.even use the repulsor turret as a high tech option for the Russ.

I'd definitely skip the Tau route. If you want something different and sci-fi, you'd want to go outside of 40K or go to a resin manufacturer or use model kits from another IP entirely. It'll always be immediately identifiable as a Tau vehicle and that'll make for a poor conversion.

If you look at something like Dream Forge's new resin flug-stug, that's a cool hover tank option which is more techy than a Leman Russ and people woudln't recognize it.

Thread from 2016 about this same project. User even designed a kit on Shapeways, pretty spendy though. Listed as $110.

I can completely empathize with your wanting to make IG look more sleek and modern. One route you may consider going is combining IG infantry and another imperial faction as allies for vehicles. I personally considered getting a force of imperial knights painted in IG gree supported by a platoon of basic troops. This way you can skip the WW1 looking tanks and go for a "walker sci-fi" aesthetic. People have done wonders with that:

Spoiler:

I too don't think it's worth converting Tau vehicles, as the dimensions are otally wrong and many people would not play against them if they are meant to represent a Leman Russ tank. (Mostly due to issues of cover etc) Now if you are looking to do a purely artistic conversion I don't see why you couldn't.

The other option is you can create a human manned Tau army if you like the hover technology. Read up on Gue'vesa (human auxiliaries in Tau armies)

It might be a fun conversion project but it would require a bit more labor to put Tau guns in the hands of humans.

It's a pity old crow isn't still operating. They had hover, grav, wheeled and tracked options for.all.of their stuff.
