This is truly historic if it all goes through.

Denuclearized NK would probably be the greatest accomplishment for a president since JFK put a man on the moon. Tremendous!

If it does, it will be amazing. However, agreeing to "work toward" denuclearization is not the same as actually denuclearizing.

Iran had done much more than NK when Trump tore up the Iran Deal, so this looks pretty inconsistent to me.

They signed a piece of paper saying they'd talk about denuclearization, thats it.

We can hope this is real progress, but we've been in situations like this with NK before, and Trump just unilaterally dropped a far more comprehensively negotiated agreement with Iran...just because, and there have been no commitments by either side except by the US to stop military exercises.

At the time the Iran deal was made - the general consensus was that it was a piece of junk that did very little - it was essentially the US giving Iran tons of money while Iran could still very easily continue to produce Nukes in secret. It's no surprise to anyone that Trump backed out of it - he will try to negotiate a new deal with them for sure (this is what Trumps does) I doubt he will be able to accomplish anything with Iran though. The situation in Iran is a lot more complicated. In NK - I think Trump Layed it out plain for Kim Jong "If you want to retain power - you are going to do this or I am going to destroy your country - lets make a deal and make a lot of money instead" BOOM - it was that simple. Nothing like that will work in Iran though.

I am being hopeful here. It is possible this is a ploy or could not amount to anything but if it happens - it is amazing.

And yet surprisingly the IAEA thought the deal was workable, in fact pretty much everyone except Israel and the GOP.

No, it was not that simple and no the US was never going to simply up and do that on is own, not with 5 digits worth of conventional artillery barrels within range of one of the most important economic and financial centers on the planet (Seoul). There are a huge number of factors at play, and absolutely nothing has been done yet except to sign a piece of paper saying theyd talk about it.
