What does everyone think of Inquisitor Obiwan Sherlock Clousseau? I think he proves beyond any reasonable doubt that 1st Edition Rogue Trader was more of a parody than anything.
And checked the rules this time.

I'd rather have him in 40K than Guilliman.

Definitely a product that shouldn't rightly exist in current 40k. As much as I think 40k could use a good larf every now and then (hence me playing orks), this one seems a little too... self-aware.

The Tick: Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception. |

There are far more parody and dark humor elements in Warhammer:40,000 rogue trader than just Inquisitor Clousseau.... I think my personal favourite was The Black Planet, Birmingham (which recieves almost no visible light and as a result no-one wants to go there. It's inhabitents have become culturally and linguistically isolated).

I prefer there being puerile jokes in the setting intentionally (as it was during the RT days) over the setting being a puerile joke by accident (as it is today.)

Inquisitor Obiwan Sherlock Clousseau has been upgraded to Primaris, so he’s now Captain Iron Man Hawkeye Widow Hulk of the Deathwatch.

I don't understand why this particular throwaway line gets so much attention. Is it just that Americans are ignorant of the more specifically British in-jokes in that book? locarno24 already mentioned Birmingham (which has been referenced recently - in the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook, I think), but the whole description of the Space Wolves, and their homeworld of Lucan, which was just the buildup to saying that the commander of the Space Wolves was called ... Lord Lucan.
Then there's the bestiary including man-eating squirrels and facecloths (again, they re-appeared in the most recent Ciaphas Cain book, and are fething terrifying there).
To be honest the iconic Rogue Trader character for me is the infamous merchant? pirate? smuggler? Abdul Goldberg, your nemesis across three or four scenarios.
All in all, it's a pity the player base got so po-faced that this sort of stuff took a bit of a back seat. Thank heavens for the Regimental Standard and the Warhammer Community webcomics.

40k is a satire. Just as Judge Dredd is a satire.
And well, 'nuff said I feel.
