So I just got an original Tyranid Zoanthrope - funny I remember them being a lot bigger the first time I saw them, but as that was probably more than 15 years ago and I was smaller then too chances are I've just gotten bigger.

Still there's a bit of paint still on it and whilst its been cleaned off well already I think one more dip should get more off. I use Dettol for the stripping and just want to confirm that the older lead-based models are still safe to leave in it for extended periods. I know that white metal can basically be left in it "forever" without problems, but that resins and plastics deteriorate (at varying speeds).

You'll be fine. Lead is one of the most unreactive metals. Use some acetone/nail polish remover to get all the gunk off.

Yes I stripped all of my old 2nd ed metal Nids using nail polish remover.
But Im nearly sure it has to be acetone free.

Acetone with melt plastic, but should be safe on metals. I used 100% acetone nail polish remover to strip RT/2nd ed metals.

Thanks all just wanted to double check before giving this model a dip (since I've got some older white metal models that I gave a dip a - year ago? And I've still yet to get them out of the jar and fuss around cleaning them up.....)

It will melt plastic if you leave them soaking in it, but you can use it to clean the dettol paint gunk off with an old toothbrush, then clean that off with soapy water and it's fine.

I use purple spirit to get rid of paint from metal and plastic, for stubborn stains and superglue on metal I use acetone polish remover

In the U.K., you can get acetone-free nail polish remover from Wilkinson's for about a quid a bottle and it will strip anything and won't melt anything, in my experience.
