Ok, now the CA2018 rumors the droping of the points for powerfist (down to 9pts), while the Thurnder Hammer had no signals of dropping points, it can be assume that after CA, the points of TH would still be 21pts (characters) / 16pts (everyone else). So, with the difference between the two weapons is only the random damage and fixed "high" damage, is the TH still be worth taking?

From my view, maybe the Thurnder Hammer could still be worth it on normal guys as the difference is not so significant, but on characters, the PF would be more worth its points than the TH. The SM/BA/SW etc characters have way more attacks than normal guys, and have higher WS. So it is more likely to land more hits, which would eliminate the randomness of D3, i.e. the result of overall dmg would more likely being close to the "averaged" 2 Dmg per wound caused. So, the difference of TH compared to PF in the hands of SM character would be only 1 more dmg per wound. Is it worth the helfty 12pts? I am not sure I could be positive on this.

What do you guys think? Looking forward to hear your ideas about it.

Thunder hammer is better for Captains, that are going to have more attacks and survive longer.

Powerfists all the way for units like Death company, Veterans, and Sanguinary Guard.

You get 2 powerfists, and 3 spare points for the cost of one Thunderhammer. 2 powerfists on average do more damage than one thunder hammer so its not really a contest.

Cannot talk for SM in general but with my SW I prefer Thunder Hammers. Mostly because the unit that wants that weapon more than anyone else, Wulfen, can't have Power Fists. But also for WG termies I'd take Thunder Hammers over Power Fists. With CA and 9 points Power Fists I may chose Fists over Hammers for characters though because 12 points of difference is something and I always struggle with points in list making; since I usually don't bother with the shield for my Wolf Lord (he has a built in 4++) for the same amount of points of a Hammer I can get a Power Fist and a Combi-plasma which puts the latter combination above the Hammer. But I can also spare those 12 points for something else.

Power Fists are ok for units of Blood Claws, but they can't be equipped with Hammers anyway.

Anti tank units are better equipped with TH, they must be reliable on that role. More versatile units, like blood claws which are basically anti infantry, are better with a Power Fist because it's cheaper and basically a bonus upgrade just to invest the few spared points available.
