Subject: Adding injuries to space marines

In honour of a glorious victory where my lieutenant wiped out an entire squad of ten Khorne berzerkers, I've decided to acquire a Khorne berzerker and add him to said lieutenant's base in a sort of duel. Since both he and the 'zerkers died that day, I'm thinking of adding some bleeding injuries to both models.
What would you guys recommend for adding injuries to marines? I'm considering just taking my hobby knife, cutting a jagged score into the armor and then liberally applying Blood For the Blood God, but do you guys know better ways of modelling arterial spray or dismemberment?

Soldering irons are good for heat based damage. Melt some proper.holes.in stuff. For dismemberment it's quite effective if you add a bit of bone to the end of the limb just sticking out of the wound.

So like just get a bit of epoxy or spare plastic, glue it onto the site of the cut, prime it and paint it bone-colour?

Yes, or use some GS to make a more organic bone end shape, or cut up.a handy skeleton or Necron mini for the bits.

You could go a couple of ways about it, using a pin vise to drill bolter holes and ding the armor, splattered blood and dismembered limbs; or replace dismembered limbs with mechanical parts from the likes of machanicum bits and add some berserker trophies around the base or hung on the backpack.

I would use different methods depending on the nature of the injury - drilled holes for ballistic damage as Big Mac suggested, v-shaped cuts for melee damage etc. The nature of the weapon that caused the wound is going to determine the method you'll have to use to model it.

Another challenge is that the lieutenant is already primed and partially-painted. I'm hesitant to cut into him as a result, although the most substantial damage is going to be on that poor 'zerker who had to fight him. He's the power sword lieutenant from Dark Imperium.

In that case I would use something like a file and make some gouges in his armor - the rougher the better.

You could use a hobby saw. The serrations should create a closer match than a knife.

Don't space marines have implanted organs that help them clot wounds faster - so they wouldn't normally suffer much in the way of wounds that would show on unaugmented humans.
Anything that would show on a marine would probably leave meatbag v1.0 cleft in twain.

To be fair, this guys suffered a grand total of about 8 unsaved wounds after my opponent popped the fight twice strategem.
