Ridin' on a Snotling Pump Wagon

Shiny new Black Mirror on the Netflix.

It’s multiple choice teepee, like a Choose Your Own Adventure, but on yer telly!

So far, I’ve gone with ‘Frosties’ and ‘Thomson Twins’, followed by ‘Accept’.

Not gonna say anymore, but do give this a whirl!

I might watch it tonight, I am kind of skeptical of a movie with this choose your adventure thing. But then again black mirror hasn't ever done me wrong so it might turn out good.

Pretty well done. Railroads you a bit here and there but we found 2-3 decent endings and a few "endings" like when you die right away in the old cyoa books.

I enjoyed my first run through. Looking forward to more experimental runs in the next few days. As always, Black Mirror delivers a quality product.

This is madness and cool Much better than the option presented in Farenheit 451, the 1960s version.

I found it neat from a technical perspective, but the story was kind of bleh. I like Black Mirror but none of the variations of this I found were really amazing in the way, say, San Junipero, USS Callister, or White Christmas were.

For a first attempt, it was pretty excellent. I think when there’s multiple stories being told, then the story writing itself is going to suffer somewhat.

I’m interested to see others pick up the baton and run with it. Choose your own telly adventure does have decent legs.

Well, you did compare it to the best three episodes

So I saw it tonight, and tbh im kinda meh about it. It was a neat experiment I guess. But the plot substance and characters was barely up to par with a full blown black mirror episode. It must have took a lot of time and money to film and edit together though. But the payoff is just not great. Id consider it weak as far as this series goes. I cant see myself dicking around with it much and rewatching it like I did some other episodes. The journey wasnt worth the conclusion. I also went back and picked other options and fast forwarded around to get a glimpse of what could have been. It was just nifty I guess, but not great.

Yeah, I think this episode was more important for showing what can be done than for the content.

For me the thing that is is good is they played to the mediums strengths.

If it's a choose your own adventure then it makes the audience feel something when they have to make the choice between 2 bad outcomes. The effects of that choice rest on the person with the remote.

Think of it similar to witcher 3 and the consequences of how you handle situations.

Or also, Brothers: A Tale of 2 Sons. There is a point in brothers where you have to dig a grave a bury a body. It could have been a cut scene. But instead they put you in a room with nothing to interact with but the ground to start digging. You then have to grab the body and drag it into the hole. You then have to go to the pile of dirt and shovel after shovel place the dirt on top.

The scene is all the more powerful because you are not sitting back and watching it happen but instead have to be the agent doing it yourself.

The best moments of this interactive episode reach for things like that. You are given the agency of control. And because of that they gave you choices you don't really want resting on your shoulders with the consequences being a result of your choices.

While I agree it isn't narratively the strongest episode, I do think that if you're not British and of a certain age, that a lot of what is positive about the episode, i.e. the attention to period detail, may pass you by.
