Let some weapons critical hit on a 6. A critical hit is basically a mortal wound that respects fixed saves. Less op than a MW but still very effective.

So, effectively, give weapons AP Infinite on wound rolls of 6? I'm trying to understand what exactly you're saying.

I believe what is being said is that for certain weapons (yet to be determined), if you roll a 6 To hit, it automatically wounds - no To Wound roll required.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Ignore that, didn't read the OP right.

Edit - So, "Critical Hit!: A hit roll of an unmodified 6 causes an automatic wound rather than a regular hit"
On what weapons would you want this on?

And what would you be giving shuriken weapons to make up for giving their rule to a bunch of other weapons?

It may be nice only on very powerful weapons that fire a limited amount of shots. Otherwise anything with a good rate of fire will be overpowered.

Things like S10 AP-4 multidamage or better could definitely skip the to-wound phase if they roll an unmodified roll of six. I'd limit a rule like this only to very powerful and expensive weapons.

I'm still not clear on what's being suggested. Are we talking about...

* Weapons that on TO-WOUND rolls of 6 ignore armor saves but not invulns?

Or...

* Weapons that on TO-HIT rolls of 6 automatically wound, but don't bypass saves?

In either case, it would depend a lot on how it was implemented. Giving lasguns access to either mechanic would probably break the game. Putting it on plasma pistols (for some weird reason) probably wouldn't.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

I believe the suggestion is that the "critical hit" will get past armour saves but still allow invulnerable saves - like the old-school AP2 weapons.

I think that a lot of weapons which currently cause mortal wounds should instead go across to this.
