Does anyone do it? Is it a bad idea? I have dipped my 150 28mm Early Imperial Romans to good effect as well as my 10,000 pts of orks.

My process is:

Block paint minis including details like straps, hilts, handles etc.
Base with sand and PVA
Apply Miniwax Polyshade Royal Walnut via a brush.
Allow to dry.
Add turf.

Any thoughts?

15mm should be fine with a subtle colour dip, have used washes on mine for quite some time (well some of them) works just fine

Strong Tone dip looked great on my All Quiet on the Martian Front Americans, but I did shake off excess onto spread out newspapers. I think you have a solid plan.

I also used Strong Tone Army Painter on my AQMF and it was fine.

I've dipped 15mm WWII Russians and it turned out pretty decently. I used Minwax Polyshade and I shook them off into a cardboard box/newspaper.

That's my product of choice as well. I always brush on now as I find it faster and less messy. Heres a link to the finished product. They won't win any awards, but I think they will look ok on the table top.

Stuff that dipping rubbish....horrible stuff.
ive gone through huge amounts on GW earthshade wash.
Will never dip again as it shines like hell takes 48 to dry and then spray with a horrible toxic duller to take shine off....oh my!

Yes GW Agrax Earthshade is good. It also takes longer to apply, and costs more.

How do you protect your minis, being so against a matte spray? Every gamer and hobbyist I know, regardless of system or
scale, sprays their minis with a dullcoat sealant.

I've dipped 15mm stuff in the past and it does work, but I prefer shades. I use Army Painter Soft Tone on 15mm infantry and it works great. Agrax Earthshade or Seraphim Sepia also work well.
