I'm new to AOS so can someone explain to me how the mark of slaanesh works? If a unit outside the hedonites book has a mark of slaanesh can they be added to the army like any unit from the book without being counted as allies? Would adding say a slaanesh marked soulgrinder take the hedonites of slaanesh allegiance abilitys away? As soulgrinders are currently not in a section that can be taken as allies for the hedonites book. My local GW manager tells me that if I took a slaanesh marked soulgrinder I would no longer be a hedonites of slaanesh army and would just be a grand order chaos army. If someone can tell me where is states I can bring a slaanesh marked unit and still keep my allegiance abilitys that would be awesome.

Any SLAANESH unit can be freely included in the army, and gain all the benefits. Note that some of the allegiance abilities in the book specify they apply to HEDONITES only, which come solely from the book.

You can find the rule reference in the Core Book's page on Allegiance Abilities. Somewhat confusingly, the way it's worded is that if all the units have a given keyword, they all count as an army of the given faction (which is printed in regular sentence case, not KEYWORD FONT). The example given is that if every unit is STORMCAST ETERNALS then your army is a "Stormcast Eternals army".

So when the Battletome refers to a "Slaanesh army", it means an army in which everything is SLAANESH. This would include Slaves to Darkness, Daemons, etc. from other sources that have the correct keyword (or are assigned it at the start of the battle).

"This section describes the allegiance abilities available to a Slaanesh army." Note how every reference in the Hedonite book refers to the allegiance being a Slaanesh army. This is also how it works for the other gods, and is how they have always done it going back to GHB1. Suffice to say if it has the Slaanesh keyword it is in the army, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.
