Serious blast from the past. This was for a Windows 98 machine. I got it at Origins, back in 1999 or 2000.
I don't have a Windows 98 pc anymore (obviously), but I am 99% certain that this disk would still work. It's in pristine condition.

Does your current machine have a floppy drive? That's the first question.
Good find.

Ahh. Thought I'd mentioned that. Nope. Haven't had a floppy drive in a very long time.
I actually contemplated buying a USB floppy drive on Amazon. It's only $17. I found a handful of other floppys, too. I do wonder what's on them.

it does now. Automatically Appended Next Post: My dad's PC had a 5.25" floppy drive until only a couple of years ago (it was a 2-in-one unit with both floppy drives in a single enclosure and hadmade its way across three or four replacement PCs over the years). I've still got a copy of Microprose's Gunship 2000 flight sim on 5.25" disks, and a few other games on 3.25" disks, despite hot having a suitable drive for nearly a decade. Can't quite bring myself to bin 'em.

I wonder how much information has been lost due to shifts in formats in the last 20 years.
Hopefully not much.

Can be a big problem actually. It took ages for archives to accept digital photographs rather than black and white film for ages because of that for a start.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I talked to Library of Congress Librarian once, they preserve everything on Microfilm. It lasts forever and can be read with a magnifying glass.

My mom's entire career was with the Library of Congress.
