Subject: BB: Most funn bashy team?

I am in a league now of BB. My first one, it is great fun. Teams teams, we each play each other two times, so ten battles.
I am playing tomb kings/khemri and I am just having a blast! It is really really fun. While I am scared of small dodgy fast teams, I really enjoy having the four Tomb Guardians. Five battles in one has Mighty Blow, one has guard and one have might blow and block! It is just so much fun!
What should I play next season? I really like being the big strong team. But after Khemri has shown me the basics I would like to try something else.
I was thinking Orks. Very bashy. Four S4, Four Blocks, One S5 Might Blow. Or perhaps the other undeads. The mummies start with Mightblow! Yes please. Other sugestions for teams are very welcome.

A shout for Lizardmen, my Quetzla Thunderbolts tended to be the most feared deathdealers in our leagues. When you have seven guys with S4+ on the field, the opposition has to think a bit. Of course it takes time to develope any proper skills on the Saurii, but hey, that's what casualties are for
For funsies? If you fancy being good at the game, try Ogres. Sometimes it is fun to shoot yourself in the foot.

My preference would be Orks, because they've got options beyond just caging up and creeping to the end zone. I played a season with undead once, and by Nuffle it was boring; especially the game against dwarfs!

These guys are hysterical. If you can make your own Minotaur model (I used the big guy with the horns from the Silver Tower boxed game) they're even funnier. The Chaos chosen are S4 and Beastmen are S4 on a blitz, against my friends who play humans I spend the first couple of turns just trying to cause injuries so they're playing a man or two down later on. I love them.

Oooooo...perhaps put that picture in a spoiler.
I did not think of Chaos a a S4 team, but I suppose they are. The Nurgle chaos also are cool no? I mean, they even get the slime monster.

I'd suggest "Standard" Chaos as better.
Standard access on all models to Block, Tackle, Mighty Blow, Pile-On and *CLAWS* makes building a murder machine factory incredibly easy.
Give one or two Beastmen… Extra Arms? To make pickups on 2+? and then the rest will just kill people. Do NOT be surprised if once you hit TR of 200 that people will forfeit rather than suffer the casualties. They're *TOO* good at killing people by the 3rd level, and at 4th you can kill anything, all the time.
In an "open" league, you level half your guys to get Block + Tackle as the first two Skills. The others take Block + Claws.
That way, if you're playing dodgy teams, half your guys can take them out and the other half can support / get in the way. If you're playing tough teams, then the guys with Claws cut through armour and you're getting roughly even casualties against dodgers as against tough opponents.
Add Mighty Blow to increase "Casualty" results as 3rd level for both groups.
From here, a balance of Guard, giving "Claws" to Tackle guys, and a few Pile-Ons for second-chances on Claw guys.
At least 2 Beastmen will need (I think) extra arms to pick up the ball better. They take the ExA mutation, then Block, and then you're hoping on doubles to get Dodge or Side Step... but anything that lets you hang onto the ball or steal the ball (like strip ball...) is good. They'll be the fastest levelers on your team, so if you have a "killer" Beastman get retired later on, consider starting a 3rd runner in his place. Not on the first drive, but if you're receiving in the second half after you've stacked some casualties, you can risk the re-roll for a couple of turns to get him his first level (Ex Arm) and then you've got a backup guy to pickup the ball if one gets knocked out or casualty'd.
NOTE - *IMPORTANT* NOTE! Once you reach murder-machine levels nobody will want to play you, because you are guaranteed long-term team damage. Stat loss, Deaths, out for two games... easily 3 or 4 models will suffer that fate in a game when playing against you. In a brutal, cut-throat league that might be ok but let's just say that I found out the hard way...
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
As much as Tackle is the ultimate *ouch* to dodgy teams, Claws is just brutal on Orks, Dwarves, Lizardmen, Undead, etc. You should talk to your group about building such a team, to make sure they're up for it. It is NOT fun to play against.

Necromantic Horror are a good bashy team. Also very competitive, with some solid ST4 blockers, Wight Blitzers and Ghoul Runners, plus Werewolves who turn into absolute monsters.

A lott of good suggestions here.
The league we play will be fairly short. The cureent we have is 10 rounds. If we add 3 more players we will only play 16 rounds. So Chaos do not have time to reach murder levels.
Lizard men could be cool.
I will say Necromantic Horrors seems a bit cool. While not high S (wiych was what I asked for) the Wheights, Flesh Golems and particularly the Werewolves have sojm interesting starting skills. While the wolf is only S3 it has Claw and Frenzy and an obserd move 8! It could be fun to kitbash as well. I have a wherewolf from Bran Redmaw kitbash from 5th edition Fall of Mymeria SW special character. I can kitbash one more, and make 2 flesh golems.

Necro Horror start with some good skills (block on wights, dodge on ghouls) and the other players get good with one skill really (block on wolves and golems). So they develop quite quick.
They also have a good variety.
I've never played with them but I've played against them a lot on FUMBBL and by about 1500tv they can be monstrous.

By the end of 10 games, Chaos can be a murder machine team. It depends on how “cruel” you are, regarding putting the extra beats on people, and your risk tolerance for attempting passes. Giving a player with no SPP a completion makes them one MVP away from their first (crucial) level.
Once your team has block, and assuming you are able to make 2-die blocks nearly always, you have a 97% to not “double skull”, which gives you sooooo many chances to throw blocks on your turns that creating casualties and knock-outs is trivial.
That the Warriors have AG 3 means they’re always a threat to pick up a ball and bash their way into a touchdown.
For what it’s worth, Orks are my favourite team. I’ve been a green skin fan since I was a kid. Dark elves are my second favourite team, and I’ve recently been playing Norse online and they’re a lot of fun... and surprisingly capable of playing a passing game. If you want bashy + skilled, I’d suggest Norse.

Yeah. Orks are tje obvius choise. But we already jabe orks this season with a potrnsially 5 more orks next season.
Norse are funn, but they have very weak arnour.
I think the main problem with the chaos 'kill them all' stratrgy is that it makes no sence to make it easier for their next opponent to play against them. That is just helping my opponents villy nilly.

That is the Norse vulnerability, yes. But consider that every bashy team’s first skill is “Block”, and you’re one skill-up on every bashy team. And your guys are dirt cheap to replace, and come stock with the very skill they need to be effective, without needing to level.
Think about Black Orks, Saurus, and Chaos Warriors. They all need to gain a level *without* block so they can become good at blocking. Norse start there. For the price of basic linemen.
Their stock Frenzy on many players also lets you throw more blocks per turn, increasing the chances of knockdowns / injuries. Plus, once a “runner” gets catch, you have players with sure hands / pass on a stock model, throwing to a guy with block and catch... that’s quick for a human.
On top of getting Block / Tackle on the frenzied, S4 yhetti-kin. Then mighty blow. I had one such Ulfwerner at 4th level (Block, Tackle, Mighty Blow, Pile On, Frenzy comes stock) after about 6 games. I took chances early to have him score touchdowns to get his first level in the first two games, and then I was lucky to go up against elven teams (low armour) before their linemen gained dodge, getting very quick casualties... and I then picked up Tackle before hitting a Halfling team.
Which was a fortunate series of events, I’ll admit but most other players were on their second skills by that point (basic linemen take Tackle as their first skill, helping to murder stunties) and then whatever I was in the mood for. I like the Kick skill, because once a player is down to 6 or so players on the field, you can pseudo-blitz if they try a “loaded side” attack. Just “kick” to the other side and chase that ball!
Anyhow, most every team is bashy, and you can play most teams in that way. Humans are kind of in a weird spot, where they have to out smash the agile teams, and out-play bashier teams. Elves are too fragile and expensive to bash “proper” and if you aren’t 1-turn touchdowning with an experienced Skaven team you’re straight-up doing it wrong.

I'm a big fan of Norse. Mostly because I like the fluff and style, but I've had some decent results playing with them.
I wouldn't play a passing game with them though.
Also, a bashing game does not conquer all. The best performing teams are consistently wood elves, dark elves and high elves. An agility team played well should run rings around a bash team and make sure they can't make too many blocks per turn.

Agility teams can consistently win tourneys, because they win the early matches. In a 10 game tournament, you win the first 4 games because you’re able to simply move where you want and other players can’t murder you. The then you have a higher leveled team going into the home stretch.
The point I made was that NON-Elf teams (and skaven) can’t out-agility play Elf / Skaven teams. So there are 4 teams that focus on playing the ball and 12 (ish) teams that focus on beat-down.
If the game were to be redeveloped with a D12 as the random number generator, that narrows the gap between agility, average, and klutz teams.
I’d also like to see all armour be increased, in part to account for using d12 as the generator of choice, but also to reduce injuries. Also, have “injuries” last to the end of the game, and that’s it.
I’d rather players “age out and retire” than have them all killed in the line of battle. Last night I had a Dwarven lineman go for it, fail a reroll, and then DIE as a result. An early team (second game) so no apothecary. But thankfully he came back as a zombie to replenish my opponent’s ranks. I approve of a system that starts to appply negative traits (negative stat, lose a random skill, increase to injury table) once players hit level 4 or so.
I get spiraling expenses, but I think that trying to achieve a more even ceiling for the teams would be more important. For example, while Orks are a better starting team, it doesn’t take long for Chaos to get ahead of them and to then have a higher ceiling for team power (mutations are amazing).
I’d also like to see a rework of the block dice. I find that Block and Tackle are so important to most models that not having them as stock items seems crippling to late-league teams.
That’s my view, and why I’d be excited for a potential overhaul.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

I find Dwarves to be my fun bashy team.
They are not strong but the fact that most have tackle which makes short work of agility teams and their high armor and thick skulls lets them stand toe to toe against the brutal teams.
I use a team of
2 slayers
2runners
7 linemen
3 Rerolls
Rest in fan factor.
I use the slayers on the sides with an assist from linemen to shove people off the pitch which gives a number advantage. Runners are there to score, and with the linemen holding back the tides and the slayers making the path clear your runners will advance quick enough. Give them block first and then tackle for when they need to catch an agility guy on the run. Doubles give Dodge to anyone, makes them even harder to take down. Linemen need guard as soon as possible to help deal with the big strong guys.
The game turns into a slug fest, you should always be rolling two dice, but once you have numeric superiority you are just a steam roller. Don’t start fouling until your up by three players at least, don’t need to risk losing your advantage. Extra cash should go into rerolls after you buy an apothecary for those unlucky rolls.
