I'm planning out an infantry-heavy infiltrating list which should hold its own in a close-range firefight but I don't have much that'll work against tanks. It's a low-points army (1250) so I'm considering getting a contemptor with chainfist and CCW for tankbusting and then sticking it in a dreadclaw. But that runs me ~300 points, and I'm not sure if it'll be reliable enough to get in on enemy tanks, and since it can only kill a max of 1 tank/turn startign turn 2 I'm not sure if it's enough oomph either. Anyone have experience with contemptors in drop pods? Would I be better served with multiple boxnaughts, or possible a couple of vindicator laser destroyers or a Sicaran?

Everything’s different at 1250; at those points levels I see Centurion style games (no tanks - the rules are probably on the Eye of Horus Podcast’s Facebook page) more often than unrestricted lists. In Centurion, a Contemptor (and I’d use this one as a Cortus) on foot is fine.

Against unrestricted but small lists, I think I’d rather have two cheaper Dreadnoughts with mixed arms (at least one shooty weapon each). Having just one unit with an AV value causes it to take a lot of fire.

I run two melee Contemptors at 2,500 in Alpha Legion (in that context they Infiltrate themselves rather than coming out of a drop pod), I find once they get to melee range they'll credibly remove a unit a turn (not perfectly, they don't do well against daemons or Terminators, but they'll wreck most anything else).

Can they Infiltrate? They don’t have Legiones Astartes (Alpha Legion).

Unless they gain the ability to do so from something else (ex: Warlord Trait), they can't use it from Mutable Tactics.
