This has been a very long wait(been waiting since I was a kid to have this) but Arrow films is finally releasing Nightbreed in the UK as a deluxe box set. Scheduled for a release date at the end of October...

...Nightbreed had a very troubled production and devastating release back in 1990. But against all odds its now enjoying a new lease of life in a Director's Cut which is said to restore about 20 minutes back into the film, and with a lot of changes that bring it closer to Clive Barker's original novel, Cabal.

A horror fantasy that is practically the "star wars of horror films", it has a lot going for it. Possibily Danny Elfman's finest score, an amazing vfx tour de force by Bob Keen, the actors from Hellraiser popping up as members of the half-dead and David Cronenberg embraces the role of his career( seriously, it should be terrible but it just works! ). Clive Barker proves to be a decent director too. There is a lot of 1990s cheese in this film that manages to put a big grin on your chops, and makes Nightbreed a hell'va lot of fun.

Anyway, I just wanted to let other UK fans know that something very, very wicked this comes...packed in an awesome boxset!

Oooooh! Nice!

Arrow are a fantastic company as well. Sure, they release old B-Movies on modern media. But they do so properly. Restored or cleaned up, new interviews for the extras etc.

They are indeed. Was wondering if they would be the ones to release Nightbreed, but it was looking grim. So happy about this release I sent an email to thank them. They seem a very nice bunch.

I just cannot believe how overwhelming awesome the set is. I've had Psycho 2 - another Arrow title - for months now but haven't opened it yet, so I might do that in the mean time...

...oh! For those waiting for a sequel to Cabal, there is a new Clive Barker Anthology called "Midian Unmade" and is a collection of stories about members of the Breed who have gone-to-ground after the events of the original book, and trying to survive until Cabal finds them a new home. A copy arrived through the letter box this morning and can't wait to read it!

Honestly I found the movie to be quite boring. Nothing about it seemed to particularly grab my attention.

Not even Dr Decker? The midian-massacre? Boone getting gunned down? Dr Decker coming back from the dead? Charles Haid's colourful performance as the police chief? The hotel lady screaming as shes being knifed?

Why this reminds me of the time Frank Drebin was chasing that crooked surgeon...

..couldn't resist it!
