Subject: Noise Marines - Best Model To Use As Base?

Slaanesh Chosen Marine Riding a Fiend

So I plan on walking among the throes of ecstasy and create a Slaanesh Chaos Legion very soon. As such, Noise Marines (A favored unit even though I never played Chaos prior) are the top priority to build first. I've been wanting to kit bash (Obviously as no major kit exists) and plan to use a mix of GW's Noise Marine upgrade sprues and some of Spellcrow's bits among others.
My question though is what MODEL should I use as my base that will still work with the majority of bits without looking goofy (And I can't greenstuff to save my life to make more wild options look better). I was originally thinking Dark Vengeance Chosen models as I like their armor a lot and can supplement with different helmets and backpacks in addition to the weapons. However, I'm most certain the poses they come in will be compatable with GW's upgrade sprue (They look like they're designed for the older Chaos Marines and their poses).
The obvious choice is probably just the basic Chaos Marines but I feel they lack a little extra oomph in their armor aesthetic compared to the other units. I've seen others say they use Warptalons but I hate their poses :I Havocs look a little too stiff.
I dunno, I'm conflicted! Any suggestions?

Looking at the 2018 Noise Marine ( https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Noise-Marine-2018) sprue, there's actually very little sculpted detail, with most of it being lurid patterns. If you're OK to paint similar patterns (or a pink/purple/black/gold scheme with occasional panels in bright yellow, orange, acid green, etc), the new Chaos Space Marine kit should work fine. If you make sure to choose the smoothest and most Slaaneshi heads in the kit, even better.
If you're making several units, you could use the Dark Vengeance Chosen as the army's aspiring champions and other characters, as the more ornamented armour would work well as a status marker. You could also get good mileage out of the possessed kit - switching out the legs on one marine, the head on another, the torso on a third, and so on would get you a unique looking set of models, which would play to the mid-level mutations Noise Marines seem to have in some of the fluff.
The Noise Marine / Sonic Weapon upgrade packs were definitely made for an older and smaller set of Chaos Marines, and the shoulder pads are really quite small. As the torso width won't have changed much, it should still be possible to use them with the newer Chaos Marines, but you may want to file/dremmel the shoulder pads down to fit some newer, larger pads over the top.

Appreciate the ideas! I like the idea of the Chosen being the AC, being more 'decked out' than his subordinates. I've been toying with the idea of finding more ways to mutate them and you are on to something with the Possessed. I was tempted to use a Greater Possessed also as a possible option from that boxed set as the mutated arms are, oddly, quite Slaaneshian.

Honestly why not the new CSM kit. it should look pretty good.
99% of a noise marine is the Mohawk anyway.

My biggest hesitation was due to their modified size/stature and the compatibility they might lack with even GW's sonic weapon kit or various third party bits which might still be to the prior Chaos Marine proportions. I haven't seen the new beside the prior models so I wasn't sure how MUCH larger they were and if the older bits would look off (Tiny arms or heads would be very saddening).

The new havoc kit would be a perfect base for noise bois Automatically Appended Next Post: Proportion wise you don't really need to worry about arms or weapons.. Its only the torso and legs that are different.

I thought about these also though two of the models look designed solely for rocket launchers and they stand oddly upright which is kind of jarring. But their armor does look nice and a bit more ornamental than basic chaos marines!

Yeah the 2 shoulder mounted ones, but it's only the helmets that would need work as they connect to the backpack, but I assume you'd be using different backpacks anyway. Other than that they don't look that odd. I changed mine around and put the rocket launcher on the body of the heavy bolter gunner and gave the upright body the autocannon and it works fine.

Tbh the weapon sizes remained, so there is absolutely no issue with using these still.
Using the regular new CSM could be a good base, altough the mohawk might get difficult to make.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

If you want mohawks you could get the goliath upgrade heads from forge world and trim theirs off.

I've just built a squad to go with the special edition modern remake Noise Marine. Used the new CSM kit as a base, with Spellcrow guitars and shoulder pads. I was going to try mohawks but honestly, my greenstuff skills aren't that good and with the guitars and suitably garish paintjobs I think they'll look fine. I'm not intending to use many, if any of the regular CSM I've got as my normal troops, and they will have a much more uniform, and traditional colour scheme, so I think the noisy boys will be different enough.

I did a squad of Noise Marines last year for my Alpha Legion. Spellcrow heads and weapons on regular CSM bodies (the old kit, as the new one would not come out for another year). Here's a pic:
I'm not the greatest painter, but this should give you an idea of how they can look.

Appreciate the suggestions, folks! I'm going to go ahead and try current Chaos Marine bodies with last sculpt arms for holding guns so I can use some sweet third party options.
What heads I'll use I'll decide in time. I've had my eyes on a couple helmeted heads as I never was too much a fan of mohawks (Though I may do a squad with those just for fun).

the new CSM kits should be compatabvle with the Noise marine upgrade, not tried it though so.. if you're worried, the MK 3 or MK 4 space marines might be a option

I've just remembered that Pop Goes The Monkey do sonic weapons ( short, long and terminator-scale) and url=https://www.shapeways.com/shops/popbits?section=--+Warp-Tainted&s=0]suitable shoulder pads[/url]
I've bought some of the mixed pads for deathwatch before, and they're good quality. If you like the style, you'd be good to go with just these and the new Chaos Space Marine kit.
