Apologies if anyone has already started this, but I wondered if any one had had any experience building the Tau Barracuda from Forgeworld. I've been very seriously considering getting one, however I'm not sure as to howmany parts you get and to what level the detail covers, For example are there crew? Is there internal detail? Can you remove engine hatches and covers to show the engines? I think there is a Seeker missle bay that lowers? Basically I just want to determine if this is a big old lump of resin a la the eldar void dragon phoenix, or a detailed flyer kit like the valkyrie? Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks all

I have one. The kit is a multi-part kit with two options for the pilot. The missle rack is awesome in that Forgeworld created a "rail like system" so that you can pull down the seeker missle rack. Really neat. Ill be posting some WIP in the next few weeks.

Thanks alot Fabulous I appreciate that. I was looking for some reviews on the net and wasnt able to find many, only one ona place called 40k cantina. Its hard to tell what the actual kit is like as the forgeworld website photo is very basic and only shows you the shell. Basically i dont want to pay 60 pounds (GBP) for a Rhino style resin kit that has little other features than the main shell. The missle rack sounds interesting though, and The pilot. Is it sculpted on like the Valykrie pilots or free standing in components? I also heard that the cockpit is detachable is that correct?

IMHO The barracuda is the pinacle of FW laziness. 1) There is no pilot. You get an empty chair to sit in the cockpit "tub." 2) While scribing the panel lines on the plane the sculptor's tool "jumped" out of the line creating a divot which he did not fill. This happens very regularly all over the vehicle, and if one wants a good finished product, they require much filling and sanding!

Although they're getting better, you'll still want to keep an eye out for "goobers" and bubbles. Goobers are bits of extra resin, like flash, except that they're more blobish and have seeped into some cracks or other detail. You'll need to do some surgery to clean them up. Bubbles are literally caused by air bubbles and cause holes at points where they hit the edge of the model. You'll need putty to fill them in.
As I said, they're getting better and their smaller stuff is great. I've never finished my drop pod, though, cause it's going to take waaaay to much work to rebuild the lost detail. On the other hand, my Valkrie looks pretty nice and didn't require much in the way of "surgery" to clean up.

I agree with Breotan I found that some forgeworld things require alot of work whilst some dont. But for me thats part of the challenge and fun of being a modeller. My venerable dreadnought needed some work for example but my Valkyrie was spot on. I agree with both comments here about cleaning up, but for me that isn't the issue. Its value (yes in the same sentence as FW) for money and content. I want to know if I'll get alot of bits in the box and have a really cool model that i can take my time painting as a display peice with funky extra details (like my Valkyrie which is my all time fav kit - even though its STILL not finished). I heard from a friend today that there are two cockpits one with the pilot sculpted on and one without. Anyone know if this is the case?

For the Baracuda, you do in fact get one seated pilot and one empty chair.

Thanks for confirming that Fabulous. By the way do you have any photos of your Barracuda mate? Have you painted it up already? I seem to take forever with my damn Valkeryie. I'm determined to paint every single internal detail before glueing the hull together, so far i've painted half the passenger cabin and a heavy bolter door gunner... thats been over the period of a year! So so need more time to paint!
