Looking for a game I can play vs the wife in a low key setting at home, quick games....she dosnt want to play anything for 2-3 hours for example.
I hear Warcry might be ideal.
Questions-
1- There dosnt look to be many different warbands out there to buy atm? My wife would like something less horrific looking if I know her...but the Warcry Warbands range seems a bit limited?
2- Guessing the Starter Box is the best way to go?
3- I think I heard someone say AOS boxes can be used to make a Warband? Is it true and is this an ok for a noobie to do? My wife likes pretty things like elves.....not marauding beasts of chaos etc

The current starter box is good value. If your are going the Warcry road get a box as long as they are available.
I often hear the criticism about the range lacking humans, elves, dwarfs or whatever.
Just use one of the existing „army lists“ and use the models you like as proxies.
The Gobbos have sword, spear and bows. So you could use them for a list used by elves. The Squigg Hoppers could be some Falcon rider etc.
It‘s fantasy setting, so use it

Depending on how quickly you play, Warcry can play pretty fast so it should fit the bill. Most missions are limited to three turns so you'd be hard pressed to see games drag along. I've had one game take two and a half hours as it mostly involved my elves running away for most of the turns, but that's a complete outlier.
1. Currently there are six Chaos warbands and these have been specifically sculpted for Warcry. They will be joined by another two which have artwork shown in the core rulebook, but when these two will be released is currently unknown. There are also rules for nine non-Chaos warbands, three from each Grand Alliance. More on that in point 3.
2. If you are interested in both the Untamed Beasts and the Iron Golems, the starter box is hard to beat. Even if you want only one of these warbands it's still a good deal. You get all the rules you need, dice and such, and the terrain included in the box makes for fun and varied games in my opinion. It's definitely worth getting. If you have no interest in either warband, I'm not sure that still holds true. I haven't compared prices for that case since it never really applied to me.
3. The following armies currently have rules for Warcry: Sigmarine Vanguard, Daughters of Khaine, Idoneth Deepkin for Order, Legions of Nagash, Nighthaunt and Flesheater Courts for Death, and goblins and two kinds of orcs (whose names I keep forgetting) for Destruction.
Initially these warbands each got a card pack with rules to match the cards included with the Chaos warbands, but that was a limited release and many of them are sold out. While there is not yet a release date, GW announced a book that collects their rules.
The way the rules for Warcry are written these warbands mesh fairly well with the Chaos warbands, generally speaking, although since they are not dedicated releases for the game and make their warbands out of existing boxes, some are equal in variety and options while those with a sparse model range like Flesheater Courts are a bit limited in their choices.

1) There's 6 dedicated Warcry warbands, and 8 (?) card decks for using other, existing factions. Some of the card decks are now OOP, but they're getting re-printed in the upcoming "Tome of Champions" book.
2) Not really - you can buy everything separately if you want. It is good value, but if you don't want the warbands you might better off with the rulebook & a terrain box.
3) Yes - these are the card decks. There's Idoneth Deepkin & Daughters Of Khaine for elves (for now).

A few thoughts:
1) The current "Warcry warbands" are all chaos themed, though some are not "as" horrific in theme. Iron Golems are basically dudes in armour; whilst Untamed Beasts is basically an army of bone sword wielding Conan's.
However ontop of that the are rules in the core book and in card packs (some limited/ out of supply to hunt around a bit for them) for several AoS armies with a view that we'll see a second expansion "soon" for the rest.
The recent mercenaries book also expanded the number of units you can take from regular AoS into the existing forces ontop of adding quest battles against super monsters like zombie dragons and chimera.
2) The boxed set gives you everything you need and you can easily trade away any models you don't want. However if you want to just get started then the rulebook plus the card pack plus any one of the Warcry Terrain sets will work as each terrain set comes with its own board and card pack for terrain setup (note the core block is the central terrain pack so some of the terrain cards in the other packs use the core terrain as well to expand it even further with options).
After that you just need a warband and can get started. Of course the cheapest warbands are the Warcry ones; the regular armies might be a bit more expensive to start out with since you might need two or three boxes to build up a single band; but the rules are there to be used.
NOTE some of the warcry twist cards use roaming wild beasts. The Fury and Raptor set would give you all you'd need, but you can also use creatures like the Chimera with the expanded rules in the Mercenaries book. Since those "add roaming monsters" cards talk about adding points worth of models not specific ones (note that the points for warcry are unique to it and not the same as for AoS)
Right now if she likes elves then Daughters of Khaine (somewhat blood elves) and Idoneth (sea elves) are both in the game. In addition there's the Splintered Fang and Sypher Lords warcry warband which are sort of elfish in their design and might appeal if the other elf band's don't.

That's the point - it's set in the Eightpoints, the Chaos wastes ruled over by Archaon. Look under the "Boxed Games" tab on the GW site (or link).

Best thing is to look at the product page for the card set for Idoneth
https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Warcry-Idoneth-Deepkin-Card-Pack-2019
This has a photo tab that shows the models used by an Idoneth Warcry Warband. Basically Thralls and Eel rider
The Monsters and Mercenaries expansion book also adds rules to let you take a Isharann Soulrender (as well as Tidecaster and Soulscryer); so a start collecting boxed set, which contains Thralls, eels and a Souldrender would be a very solid starting position for building up a warband of Idoneth.

Completely forgot to mention the Varanscribe site - it lists the available factions & models.

I've seen on an AoS facebook group, a leaked picture of GW release dates and the Tome of Champions is marked in for release on 14 December, '19. Didn't see the other warbands names but any leak is open to interpretation. Automatically Appended Next Post:
I personally use Battlescribe. Not sure how it differs from Varanscribe but both seem to get very good reviews.

I've just picked up a copy of the starter set to play with a friend. Looks fun & fast, small model count means I can play this whereas the volumes required for AoS make it a practical impossibility for me.
Love the concept as well of the chaos warbands fighting(although the quality of them seems to vary quite a bit - Untamed Beasts, Iron Golems look great, a few of the others terrible!)
Already got a bunch of historical dark-age era terrain that I will use for it and probably pop in a few bits from the starter set - so hoping it will be a good game playable for little effort!
