Hi guys,
Playing SM with the UM supplement, should I buy one, the other or both ?
And why ? Am I by raw allowed to play with SM datacards while using the UM supplement ?

You'll need both. The SM datacards have stratagems, psychic powers, and tactical objectives common to all Space Marines, the Ultramarines datacards have all the stuff you're only allowed to use when using the Ultramarines supplement, but if you're playing Ultramarines you can use both.

I don't know why anyone bothers buying datacards when it costs at the absolute outside a couple of bucks to copy the relevant pages at the library and maybe ten minutes to cut things out.

Library? Ewwww. That place where all the old people and homeless go? Ewww.

In this case, you would need the Main Rule Book, Chapter Approved 2018, Space Marine Codex, and the Ultramarine supplement. But seeing that everyone skips buying books and depends on BattleScribe for stats and rules, I'm sure you can find a website on Teh Interwebz that has all the stratagems on it.

I do own all of these books unfortunately for my wallet !
And why is it a thing in the USA that homeless people always go to the library ? I have never seen one in Europe !

It’s warm/cool and they don’t kick them out. They also have access to the internet there. We have way fewer shelters for homeless than the homeless population. I live in a smaller city and it happens in the downtown library very frequently.

Not a replacement for data cards (which help with on table organization), but this might help in other ways (when its all loaded).

I don’t like how they did the datacards with this release - you shouldn’t have to buy the generic SM cards + supplement. You end up with 30 duplicate tactical objective cards, and 6 tactical objective cards that won’t get used (using either the base SM objectives or UM specific objectives).

It's hard to tell from the context, do you mean you've never seen a homeless person, a library, or a homeless person in a library?

Poor Americans lack a real social safety net. Libraries are their only means to experience any leisure and to have access to the internet.

I really have to bite my tongue on my first response to that, politics are banned on this forum. I have some very not-nice things to say about the people who disagree with you.
