Hello everyone, i'm returning to aos after a break of year or so. And I'd like to hear what has changed since then, my latest army was legions of nagash, and I have the ghb2018 and the core rule book version 1. Anyways, i'm currently looking forward to build an army of cities of sigmar, mostly for casual games, but I also liked to attend tournaments. I'll include some of my thoughts after the list.

Warscroll battalion : greywater fastness artillery company
- Cogsmith (grudge-raker, runic ammunition)
- Helstorm rocket battery
- Helstorm rocket battery
- Helstorm rocket battery

- Steam tank commander (general, magnificent macroscope, seat on the council)
- Freeguild general
- Freeguild handgunners (20, longrifle, standard, musician)
- Freeguild handgunners (20, longrifle, standard, musician)
- Freeguild handgunners (20, longrifle, standard, musician)
- Iron Drakes (10, harpoon, standard, musician)
- Iron Drakes (10, harpoon, standard, musician)
- Gyrocopters (3, brimstone gun)

Tactics; so my plan is to set up two gunlines, the first is 2x20 handgunners, and behind them are 20 handgunners and 20 Iron Drakes (10 at each flank). In the middle of the lines are Steam tank as a counter assault unit, and a foot-general providing "hold the Line". The Gyrocopters are objective grabbers, and the Cogsmith gives another +1 to hit for one unit of handgunners with "salvo fire". And of course rocket batteries are pounding the enemy.

Casual play it'll do fine. Competitive play you'll be dismantled in short order by upper-end armies but could get some good games against the there-for-fun crowd and bandwagoners who don't know what they're doing.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Well, thanks. What could I do to improve the list? I've mostly played 40k with gunline armies (such as guard, Dark Angels...), and I found that it suits my play-style.

There isn't much you can do without compromising the core concept of what you want the army to be. But to make the list stronger:

-Make the freeguild general the general with the drillmaster trait and put him behind the handgunner units, with said units wholly within 12" of him. Make sure that if the units get charged the general will still be outside of 3"

-Drop the battalion, a rocket battery, and a gyrocopter to take a hurricanum w/battlemage. You need the magic and the massive hit buff aura will add more damage from shooting than the units you dropped to take it. Also it shoots MWs.

-Always run gyrocopters as 1-man units; even the mass unit discount does not offset the disadvantage of having them as one units; two individual 'copters are better than three in the same unit.
