Subject: Gear Question for Seraphon Battleline
|
 |
Elusive Dryad
|
I'm just getting into AoS and am putting together a Seraphon Start Collecting! box.
I'm assembling the minis and trying to decide on what parts go where.
So, math/meta/utility-wise, should I go clubs or spears on the Warriors.
Additionally, swords or spears on the knights?
Does AoS 2nd ed Battletomes use musicians and standard bearers still? Is there ever a reason to not take them in your units?
Thanks!

Seraphon are in a strange place right now and are in desperate need of a battletome--the one they have now is back from (well) before AoS had points or allegiance abilities. Which is to say that when they do get an update in what should be the first half of next year things could change pretty dramatically. But that aside;
Knights: Pick whichever one you like better. Saurus knights are a... 'sub-par' unit, to put it diplomatically. Neither weapon option changes that.
Saurus: AoS is very consistent with swords being good for smaller units while spears are better or larger ones (due to being able to attack with more models from 2nd/3rd ranks). That is very likely to stay the same regardless of updates. So the question is if you want to run a big unit of saurus or not.
Music & Standard: You don't pay for them; the cost is baked into that of the unit. So yes, you will always want them in your units.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.
I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games. |

Okay, I appreciate it.
Now I feel a little weird buying the old battletome off of the webstore. But, money is spent so I guess I'll have to live with it.

If it's any consolation, GW haven't confirmed anything about Seraphon releases. So while it seems logical they would get an update early next year, you could left waiting much longer twiddling your thumbs potentially if you hadn't purchased the current book.

Incidentally, if armed with spears, -1 to hit compared with swords, but a 6 to wound inflicts a wound + mortal wound (when charging). They don't get additional reach, unlike the spears the saurus warriors have.
Still, seems like swords are the way to go with them.

If you give them spears, you want them cycling charges with another unit that can pin down an enemy unit for you to charge. Also, if you take them in a Firelance, theyre not entirely sub-par....

So sorry to bump this but I've got a new development. I finally starting putting the Knights kit together and it actually looks like the box set doesn't include enough bits to fit them all with swords. If you want them to be uniform, save your sword bits from your spearmen Warriors.

That's true, but you can also just use the axes/maces/etc. Those will suffice. It does look nice when you have a full unit very similarly equip though.

No reason to be sorry. You can also just cut the tip off a spear, cut down the shaft, and make a big knife. So long as it's clear to your opponent whether your saurus pound someone's face in from a claw's length away or farther it doesn't matter what the weapon looks like. I can't wait for a Lizardmen book so I can dust off my space lizards and get painting.
Now go get yourself another carnosaur!
