Hi all,

I’m starting a Sylvaneth army this year and managed to get a Treelord from a guy at my local club for a really good price. Thing is, I’m really after a Treelord Ancient so lead my Gnarlroot Wargrove. Does anyone have any tips on what parts I’d look for on eBay to do this? I know the head, ‘beard’ and staff are needed but anything else I’m missing?

Thanks in advance!

Are you running normal Treelords too? If not, I doubt anyone would require you to alter the model at all. Even a lot of tournaments would be ok with it I think, seeing as it's literally the same kit with a few parts swapped.

I don't know what it's like in your area but in the south most of the tournaments require WYSIWYG models, in fact i haven't found one in 2019 that didn't, then again i play mostly ITC.
I wouldn't suggest this if you have any dreams of playing competitively with yer Ents.

Hmm never been to tournaments but would like to in the future. I’m sure it would be fine at the local club but I’m a sucker for WYSIWYG, fully painted armies etc.

OP and myself are both UK, so that might be the difference.

Always check with the organiser of course!

So does anyone know what the specific Treelord Ancient bits are?

The staff is the distinguishing feature, for WYSIWYG that is the piece you need.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

There's differences between Treelord/Ancient/Durthu in terms of posing and extra bits on the model, but what people are really going to notice/require for WYSIWIG will be the Staff for the Ancient, a sword/bladed weapon of some sort of Durthu and a hand with tentacles for basic Treelord.

Pick up some small cylinder magnets from your local hobby store and an appropriately sized pin drill to make a hole the right size for the magnet. One hole on the hand bit, one hole on the forearm/wrist of the treelord.

Each model kit for Treelord comes with three different hand/weapon bits, so with some quick and easy magnetizing, you can build a Treelord that can swap between whichever configuration you want it to be. I have three Treelords and have done that with all three of them. Don't lock yourself in to just one type of treelord

If we want to get even deeper into the weeds the poses of the treelord models are achieved by using different neck, elbow and knee parts, so if someone insists that three treelord ancients must be built following the 'treelord ancient' instructions you'll have three identical centerpiece models in both form and pose.

But nobody really argues that. The defining characteristics of a treelord ancient are that they're a treelord with a staff (as opposed to a treelord with a sword or a treelord without either), so long as you're able to achieve that effect no one should have any objections.

I wouldn't even bother buying the staff hand online - craft your own with some sprue and greenstuff.
