Finished CL Werners followup to “Overlords of the Iron Dragon”, “Profits Ruin”.

First off, this novel seemed to move faster than “Overlords”, (if that makes sense). I think thats because while we’re introduced to some new characters filling in where previous crew members bit it in the previous novel, only about half the crew are featured as circumstances make them split up.

Much like “Overlords”, there is not a whole lot of world building. Its just an adventure story. There are some airborne Clan Skryre, which was cool to see(though I’m not too keen on seeing them on tabletop. Skryre has enough toys, give the other clans some love!), more insight into Kharadron culture during the opening sequence, as well as a new(and old, but a lil reduced) Tzeentchian antagonist and if you can guess by the thorny cover, a bit of Sylvaneth wackiness (though it seems to be a one-off type creature).

I liked it, but I don’t ask for much in my fantasy reading. I honestly am eager for another followup, as a unique problem may occur for the crew of the supposedly cursed Iron Dragon. That problem being:

Spoiler:
Success! And how they handle that success could make for a great story. We all heard the stories of folks who won large sums of money and promptly gak their financial bed and squandered it. What do Kharadron spend their money on when not out prospecting for aether gold? Think about it. Greedy Duardin privateers on shore leave getting up to all sorts of trouble with their new gains. That would be fun.

Recommend it for KO fans or anyone interested in KO stuff.

Interesting. Yet to read it, but I really, really liked the first one for its plot & character design and depiction of nuance to the enemies. Might want to warn that you have major spoilers for the first novel in this review, just in case someone blunders in!

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.
