Hey all

I'm trying to make a "soup" army up in Battlescribe, consisting of an Inquisition Vanguard detachment, and detachments that give me access to heavy support from the Imperial Guard and Razorbacks from the Adeptus Astartes...

But I want to do it without having to take HQ choices from the IG and SM?

Can't seem to work out how to though, other than to add an Auxiliary Support Detachment for each unit I want from IG and SM to add an Auxiliary Support Detachment...

Anyone here able to help me out?

If you're running the different Inquisition, Guard, and Marine elements in separate detachments (with all the benefits that they provide) then you'll need to meet the minimum unit requirements for those detachments.

If you're running them in true 'Imperium soup' mixed detachments just add the Force like normal but instead of selecting 'roster' and picking a new detachment type, just pick the existing detachment to add them to.

In Matched Play, there's no way to do that. Assuming you want to run Matched Play detachments, you must include 1 HQ as a bare minimum for each.

NOw, there are some ways around this - for example, a Tank Commander is an HQ slot for IG, so you COULD field a detachment of just IG tanks by using Tank Commanders running a spearhead.

But there is no way to get around the necessity for an HQ slot - assuming of course your opponent isn't just willing to let you bring along a mixed detachment in a casual, narrative game.

Here's what I've got so far (it's not set in stone, and probably quite likely to get trounced vs a Death Guard army) -

Vanguard detachment - HQ [Warlord]- Ordo Malleus Inquisitor in Terminator Armour - psycannon, daemon hammer, puritan, castigation. Elites - 3x Acolyte units (6x Acolytes in each) - all armed with Multimelta Fast Attack - Ravenwing Black Knights - 4 black knights, 1 huntsman Transports - 3x Razorbacks with Twin Heavy Bolters Auxiliary Support Detachment Elites - Vindicare Assassin Super-Heavy Auxiliary Detachment Lord of War - Imperial Knight Warden - Avenger Gatling Cannon, Heavy Stubber, Heavy Flamer, Ironstorm Missile Pod and Thunderstrike Gauntet Total - 1470pts, 3 CP


As I understand it, that's legal in Matched Play, and is Battleforged?

In Matched Play, all units in a given detachment must share a Faction Keyword (unless they're UNALIGNED)- but, importantly, IMPERIUM can't be the shared keyword (or CHAOS, AELDARI or YNNARI).

So you'll need to check to make sure there's another shared Faction Keyword, and I don't think that there is for your first detachment. So this wouldn't be legal for Matched Play.

On both page 240 and 214 the brb states IMPERIUM as an acceptable Faction keyword in reference to Matched Play and Battle Forged and units in detachments being from the same faction.

I'm guessing Battlescribe would give an error when creating the roster if that wasn't the case?

BS does not validate soup keywords, only battlefield roles in a detachment.
Your list is illegal since the acolytes and the marine units do not share another keyword beside IMPERIUM.
This limitation was introduced in the first Big FAQ in.. 2017?

This is one of the things I hate about current 40k, the rules are all over the place, check this web page, check that pdf, get this codex, get that supplement!

Guess I'll have to do a rewrite and add the SM stuff in another detachment or something.

What you will want to do is bring a Space Marine detachment and meet its minimum critera, add the inquisitor on top and pay 95pts and 2cp to add an assassin. Acolytes will need to be from a different detachment all together if you really need them.

Edit: Go with a Inquisition Vanguard, maybe space marine patrol but you will need a HQ and TROOP choice, and finally your super heavy aux. The assassin will still be 95pts and 2CP
