Ok everyone (well almost everyone) wants special units for their particular subfaction. The problem is that they usually need new models and gw's too busy making space marine lieutenants for that. So how about special units using existing model kits? We have some already. Veteran intercessors and World Eaters Red Butchers come to mind. Those cost cp, but personally I'd prefer points, but either way works.

So what would everyone like to see for their particular subfaction? I can think of two for Night Lords:

Night Raptors: raptors stats except 2 attacks, 3 on the aspiring champion. Same equipment as raptors but can take anything from the melee weapons list. Special rule: onslaught, d3 extra attacks on a successful charge. Uses raptor/warp talon kit. Cost: 20 ppm or 1cp on a squad of raptors.

Terror squad: same stats and equipment options as chosen. Special rules: infiltrate, same as space marine scouts. Preferred enemy infantry: reroll 1s to hit and wound against infantry. Use the csm/chosen kit. Cost 15 ppm or 1cp strategem on a squad of chosen.

Ok anybody else have an idea for their faction?

I’d go for Cadian Kasrkin, give veterans +1 leadership, double models for obsec and the ability to pay for hotshot lasguns.

Maybe the ability to give themselves an order would be interesting, but that’s just making stuff off the top of my head, in all fairness the guard codex has done a really good job in making the army rules affect infantry.

Wild Riders: Replaces Windriders for Saim-Hann, as per Windriders only Troops, +1A, and option for a power axe-equivalent. Cost them at maybe 16 base.

You can just run down the line copy-pasting all the unique Legion units for 30k for Marine subfactions, I suppose.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Yeah that's what I did. As I'm sure you know.

I like that. I'd even go so far as to say they should have the oldschool gun options; 1 in 3 can have a shuriken cannon. The rest have twin shuripults.

Similarly, I like the idea of an "Alaitoc Pathfinder" character unit. Sort of a toned-down version of Illic that uses an Elite slot.

I'd love Iybraesil howling banshees as troops, but it doesn't seem right to take something away from them to warrant them being troops instead of elites. It's not like a banshee from Iybraesil would have a worse sword or mask or ninja skills than one from Alaitoc, for instance.

Drukhari: It would be easy enough to say that giving a certain piece of wargear to a wych/warrior/wrack allows them to count as a Dracite/Dracon/Haemonculus Apprentice (baby HQs.)

Marines: Some chapters (Mentors come to mind) are known for operating as advisors for other imperial forces rather than as united front line squads. I'd love to be able to take a sergeant or tac marine looking model and use it as a character in another imperial army that provides minor buffs. Something like a 2 wound, 2 attacks model that can give a single unit within 6" a to-hit and to-wound reroll once per phase.

Chaos Marines: I think it would be cool to take mundane imperial models (guardsmen, maybe skitarii rangers, etc.) as "Alpha Legion Sparatoi." They'd be similar to masters of ordnance or masters of the fleet, inflicting damage or debuffs at the start of the first turn and/or plopping down booby trap counters pre-game that detonate when the enemy gets too close.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Can't wind riders already all take a cannon now?

For Eldar:
Black guardians - skilled veteran militia
Weapon school aspects - scorpions with biting blades, spiders with spinneret rifles, Avengers with pistol and sword etc expensive but possible
Or just senior aspect warriors and trainees, to create a 3 tiered aspect learning system that shows how they don't just go from ignorant to master to exarch...
War walker assault units with shock lances for charging (use bright lances maybe cutdown)

Mark of the aspect - wraith units marked with some aspect flavour due to the souls inside them

Warlock master - better stats single character
Shrine lord - ancient exarch, leader of the shrine under witch all their exarchs serve. Treat as a HQ. Takes multiple powers.

For Orks:
Gretchin: Supa gretchin and revolushun grotz
Orks skarboy upgrade
Waaagh prophet: upgrade to weirdboy. Become like a priest, generate miraculous feats, aura for other Orks
Da fastest - any buggy or bike squad is upgraded to faster more skillful but also have a chance of exploding more or at all
Madboyz classic old unit. Everything has changed too much, and they can't keep up. Roll for behaviour every turn
Grot boss - on rate occasions grtoz become uppity and lead other grotz around
Boss skills - different Ork bosses favour different fighting styles. Pick one like head butt, body slam, choke, bite, pointblank gigabit etc

For Tyranids
Experimental swarm - take different u0l lol lolnits from different org slots with a modification. Ie zoanthrope brood hq Gestalt

They can. I'm suggesting a downgrade for the troop version. So if you're playing Saim-Hann, you have access to the maxed out heavy weapon bikes that everyone does, but you also have the option to take troop bikes with fewer heavy guns and more emphasis on short-ranged combat.

I don't want special units. I want units to be able to be taken in other FOC slots. Raveners as troops and the Red Terror as a HQ for Jormungandr.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

As was brought up in my Legion thread though, there should be some caveats.
