Hey guys, i did not have a chance to get the new cities battletome but I just wanted to know if the Greywater Fastness can be a stand alone army and can they be competitive.

I love dwarves but can not get into fyreslayers. So, just wanted to get your thoughts on this.

The Faction Focus: Cities of Sigmar article has some helpful information.

Define "competitive" and I mean that seriously.

Competitive = good chance of going toe to toe with triple keeper style lists and winning Adepticon or LVO?

Competitive = good chance of going toe to toe with most B builds in a casual settiing?

The chance to hold their own against most armies. This doesn't mean they have to be the favorite but definitely not get steamed rolled by everything. I would also say, tier A or B competitive.

Competitive, in a sense that I will be attending tournaments with my team and I would like to take this army. So, can they hold their own against tier A and B? Also, I am not the uber competitive player where i am min maxing everything i can. I just want to play and have fun and have a good chance with proper strategy of winning some games.

Greywater with artillery dorfs and melee dwarfs can do decently well, but depending on how hard you lean in to the artillery portion of the army, you'll run in to some hard counters. Armies that have strong resistance to shooting, or an ability to avoid being shot at altogether like Sylvaneth will make your army feel weak... Same with the A or S tier armies that are excessively powerful. On the other hand, armies that are slow or can't hide, or are bad at protecting important targets from artillery will crumble to your potential three shooting phases in a row. You get this via the Greywater Batallion to shoot all your artillery in the Hero phase but only on the first round of the game, followed by your regular shooting phase, and a potential double turn if you opted to go second/forced to go second.

Also to consider, Greywater competitive builds may well not be just entirely dwarfs. You still have all of the Cities of Sigmar warscrolls to pull from, if you're after ways to power up and optimize.

Thanks Thadin, i rather keep it all dwarfs as I just bring myself to buy humans.

I am ok with counters as every army i believe has one. I don't think i want to go heavy artillery but more bodies.

Greywater can do what you want it to, provided proper min-maxxing.

Yep, as Ninth said. There's other ways to boost up Dwarf units that don't focus on artillery, just gotta look things up for yourself, going off of what you want to play or do. The Artillery one is the only one I know because it's the only greywater list I've actually played against.

Yeah, i know artillery is strong and can whittle down enemies. The plan is to have them deal with that while having to go through a solid brick wall.

I talked a bit about them in an earlier article, and this Friday have them come up again when discussing how shooting armies fare competitively.
