A thought sparked by a discussion on the fate of the FLGS....

This is mostly aimed at those concerned with tourneys & their results.
Since there are no large (or small) tourneys now, or in the forseeable near future (you know, as life resumes), what will many of you do?
(Other than the building/painting of your backlogs.)

Particularly how will you decide what's worth playing - armies/units/options/etc - when there's no rankings of how people 99% of you don't know did at events 99% of you will never attend to rally around?

Admittedly this seems more a 40k player obsession, but I guess it could apply to AoS as well. So?

for now just look at the last batch, its not realy any different than before. You can always try tabletop simulator to test lists against others and see if you can tweak it that way

Yeah, unless there are balance updates then the meta wont really change. I mean with no games there is no meta anyway.

Just twiddle thumbs and wait really! Tackle some hobby backlog as you say.

Oh I gave up on matched play some time ago. The only times I play it now is if a buddy needs a game, or more players for a league/tourney. I am perfectly happy to engage in running tournaments and observe the crapshow that is GW matched play from the sidelines.

Painting the backlog. Thankfully, I collect chaos, so I have a TON of color options to swap between to prevent burnout. And I’ve been contrast painting most things other than centerpiece models (Archaon and his court won’t see contrast on them). My Khorne mortal army is going to be almost entirely contrast painted. And I plan to have a competitive Khorne mortal and GD based army ready for when things clear. Current goals are still the following:
Archaon and Varanguard army painted (still need to collect Varanguard, only have 3)
Despoilers monster-mash army (mostly ready)
Khorne mortal army (need 4 Blood Warriors, then done except painting)
Khorne Tyrants of Blood army
Slaanesh Triple-Keeper list (need to base two Keepers for size)
Tzeentch (Unsure of after nerfs)

Like ninth, I have given up on any competitive style play with AOS or any GW game. Looking forward to seeing what comes up with the old world project.

I like playing matched play just to play if that makes sense. Trying to be tactical and winning is fun to me, even if the armies I play are not exactly up to snuff with stuff like Tzeentch or Ossiarchs. It's still a fun game, and once I get over the hump of trying to win during a game I usually have a lot more fun.

so yea, I just play to play, or so I tell myself after getting my dick kicked in by a CoS list

But for tournies, the only one I signed up for was canceled, so I'm kinda hanging in the wind. I only have my boat to dry brush for my Deepkin, and I have thralls to paint (blech) but outside of that just play pick up games at my local GW.

I only play what I want anyway, so I never paid much attention to the meta. That won't change now lol. I was supposed to be going to a team tournament two weekends ago, but hopefully it's going to be rescheduled to after the worst of the pandemic is over.

I just like playing games, and events are the best way to get a bunch of games in, and make new friends who also enjoy their war dolls.
