I came into some older Grey Knights models and looks like these guys aren't Grey Knights?

Now...uh, who uses Sternguard? Sorry, I'm not fluent in Imperial stuff that isn't common use.

Space Marines, the generic type. Sternguard might be less popular now because many Space Marine players have moved to Primaris armies. Those models in particular might find less use because equipping Sternguard with close combat weapons isn't particularly conpetetive.

There are funny uses of Sternguard (Masterful Marksmanship + Surgical Strikes (Raven Guard) makes them bizarrely effective at boltering down character Knights and Tank Commanders) but they don't really do anything Intercessors don't do.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Those guys might be from before the split of space marine veterans into sternguard/vanguard. I also don’t recall those sculpts having stormbolters. Although my memory might be off.

Correct. These are simply "Veterans" and there were two sets with 5 models each.

Yes these are the old veterans. The top one though... Might be the 4th ed special ultramarines unit. Don't recall their name but they all wore the "Axe of ultramar" and formed a command squad for the chapter master. The axe was some sort of symbol for ultramar but has since been written out of the fluff. If he has ultramarines insignia on him then that's probably the case. Otherwise it's just the space marines veterans.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

I might do some conversion work on the axe guy to make it fit my daughter's SW army she just got. Maybe some kind of HQ.
