I am trying my first campaign and it’s a bit of a disaster. I took Thessaly and the big long island above Athens. But I can only afford two armies, one filled with poor infantry and another with Achilles which has mid tier infantry. I kept one army north whilst Achilles went south to deal with a war.
Then, for no reason, two big factions surrounding Thessaly declare war. Plus a load of island nations who are going to cause problems. They start razing a settlement a turn in Thessaly. Basically wrecking my economy and by the time my armies have got back to Thessaly it doesn’t matter anymore. ATM I feel like I am surrounded by enemies and it just takes me an eternity to move the army, even in march mode yet the enemy is just going from settlement to settlement.
I mean, 76 turns in should I have way more than two stacks? Basically I go bankrupt in resources if I get more than this. Plus I hate having to rebuild territory I already took after hammering the end turn button six times before my army got anywhere near the fight. It’s not a big Kingdom so I don’t get how you can possibly deal with a weaker opponent razing all your settlements?
I am allied with Ithraca and Sparta who basically have everything south of me. But they’re even further away and aren’t prevented Thessaly being conquered or the Long Island being attacked constantly and me having run Achilles up and down it.
