Dont play Armada so have no idea if any of this is any good but the models look pretty at least.

Looks great. Bit man is it hard to justify buying a new fleet to my wallet.

I heard a rumor that they were working on crossfaction compatibility, which would ease the Pain, but haven't heard anything beyond that.

Not really cross-faction compatability so much as there will be cross-faction versions of certain ships (confirmed with the Pelta, for example). Some people theorized that they might release a card pack or a box that gives you tokens and cards,e tc. to field your existing rebel Pelta as Republic Pelta, but there hasn't really been any indication that will happen.

Yeah that would be fine. Actually the thing I want the most out of the new starter set is an updated rulebook

It's all good to go from the box. You can play all four factions against each other, and each of the two new ones have totally different playstyles. They're not just copy pastes. This is the revival the game needs and I'm absolutely stoked about it!

There will be a generic pelta in wave 2, it was teased as one of the two ships for the Republic in the artwork released in July. I'm sure that the model from the Rebellion will be totally fine so long as the cards match the CW cards. But is has been explicitly stated by the designers in Crabbok's latest CW interview video that you can put all four factions against each other right out of the box.

By "generic" you mean "Republic". Yes, I know - thats why I very specifically referenced the Pelta in my post.

Which is a big if. The rebel pelta is a "Modified Pelta" as per the cards, so I would expect there to be stats differences between the Republic and Rebel versions of the ships. The cards are largely irrelevant though - you get two cards in every expansion (Type A/1 and Type B/2) so you could theoretically run two different variants of the Republic Pelta simultaneously using the cards that come in the Republic Pelta kit alongside a pre-existing Rebel Pelta mini, but what really matters is the cardboard base token that shows the weapon and shield distributions for the vessel. Typically you only get one of those base tokens (which are double-sided) per box, so if the Republic Pelta has a different shield and weapon layout, you're not going to be able to run your Rebel Pelta alongside your Republic Pelta simultaneously (unless your opponent is cool with the base token being inaccurate).

But is has been explicitly stated by the designers in Crabbok's latest CW interview video that you can put all four factions against each other right out of the box.

Cool, but this has nothing to do with what is being discussed here - and is also pretty obvious. I know some people out there were worried, for some reason, that there wouldn't be any cross-era playability, but I think those concerns were pretty stupid. When someone says "crossfaction compatability" they aren't referring to being able to play Republic vs Imperial or Confederate vs Rebel, they are talking about whether or not they can use their Imperial Arquitens or Rebel Pelta with their Republic fleet, etc.

I doubt the pelta will have different shields or weapons, and will likely be just a difference in upgrades and cards. But it will be interesting to see, it might end up being the one exception.

It very well could though. We have 2 versions with variable weapon/shield distributions of every ship in the game so far - the ISD has 4 versions. It wouldn't be unprecedented for the Pelta to follow suit.

And I sure hope that they make big changes to the Republic version of the Arquitens. As is it looks heinous with Obi-Wan

Am I missing something with the Star Frigate? Can't seem to find a justification for +3 points to swap an offensive upgrade slot for a defense one and swapping a squadron point for a black anti-fighter die.

It might be related to the difference between the "Comms" and "Transport" Keyword?

Yeah, looks like it will be getting treated just like the assault Frigate, where there is a version you never see.

I was hoping more Separatist ships would end up named after random concepts in political economics, like the Invisible Hand. Rational Egoism. Spontaneous Order. Effortless Action. That kind of thing.

Republic fighters don't look too bad. The Jedi aces are pretty pricey, but you can only bring two anyways, so I guess that's not too big of a deal.

Looks like the Consulars are better but pricer CR-90s.

The Seperatist fighters were previewed today, looks like the CIS will probably be focusing on dedicated carriers as the fighters are meh on their own but excellent when activated by a ship. (Aces are either fantastic or garbage though).

Given the Munificent Frigate preview, and the lackluster stats of their Hardcells, I'm wondering if their game plan is going to almost exclusively rely on fighters.

EDIT: I R dum. Missed the "without Screen" keyword. Yeah, not sure if the Belbullabs are any good.

Droid Fighters:

So, Generic Vultures and Hyenas look like they will be very nasty. I definitely see Separatists running Fighter Swarms. I am not sure that their Aces are worth the points, though.

Tri Fighters look like better A-Wings, and those already pretty darn good. Lose 1 HP, but gain Swarm and AI? Deal. Aces look good, but lack of Escorts and low HP makes me a little worried that they will be focused down fast.

Bellballubs are probably the most Iffy. Assuming you have enough Squadron Commands, probably worse than a pair of Vulture droids, so the question is, is Relay 1 worth it? Probably add a couple to a swarm, especially to escort bombers, but will not see these in large numbers. Probably the only Squadron where the Ace is better than the Generic. Grievous will make mincemeat out of generic squadrons, and Relay 2 is definitely a valuable ability for Separatists, given how dependent they are on their AI rule.

So, I suspect that we are going to see early separatist lists based around max fighters/bombers, A Trio of Comm Frigates, with possibly one of their small ships to fill out the points.

I like the deployment limit for character squadrons. The character-squadrons-only fighter wings always seemed bizarre to me.

What are people's thoughts on the Hardcells? They seem like they're designed to be tanky, and their upgrade slots are interesting, but overall it just seems like they're quite overcosted. Like, if they were only 2-3 points more than the respective Consulars, then maybe I could see that, but almost 10 points more is too much IMO.

Well, my first thought was "Nebulon-B Knockoff". So not a good thing.

I think the Separatist ships seem overpriced because they are paying a tax for some of the upgrades you can put on them. They seem like a high-synergy faction that can get multiplicative buffs, etc. with the right upgrade combos, etc. so I think they are being priced to factor that aspect of their design in, whereas the ships naked/on their own are basically overpriced trash.

I don't think they're over priced at all. So far the CW content has been just an absolute joy to get on the table. Each and every ship feels unique and has its place on the field. So far my favorites are the Acclimator-II and the Providence, but all of the ships have been fun. I just got my Recusants and my Pelta I hope will arrive tomorrow. But suffice it to say, the CW consent for me is a lot more fun than the Empire/Rebs.
