So I have about 500 points of almost every faction from 3rd edition, but my pride and joy is still my Speed Freaks. (Which started off as GorkaMorka)

My audience is family and friends. Casual playing so no one is going to care that some of the old models are retired now.

What are your recommendations as far as cheapest way to jump into 9th?

I was thinking get the Warhammer + app subscription. That gets me the data sheets for all the units in the game. And the core rules are already free. Then over time start buy the full rule book and the codex orks.

Am I missing something here? Because I remember when I bought 3rd edition I got an army list for every faction. Current core rule book doesn't have that right?

Yea, gotta buy a codex, and then if you want to do some speed freak things you probably also want the supplement book. Both are very overpriced .
The dark side of the hobby does have some advantages though, if you know where to look.

I believe with the app you need to 1st buy the physical Codex, then enter the code in the back.
This then unlocks your data sheets.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Best to just bite the bullet & buy the Rulebook + whatever Codex books you need.

Thanks for the advice.

And here I was actually convinced that the subscription was a good deal.

Now if they actually did offer a free codex or other rules unlock with subscription I wonder what that would so for their sales? Not to mention the good will it would incur?

Oh well that's just my wishful thinking. At least I can take solace in one thing. Codex orks=unlimited ork vs ork warfare in my home. I can live with that.

I stopped purchasing any printed material from GW an edition or so ago, they're far too expensive, end up being corrected almost immediately and go out of date in a year or two. I use Battlescribe and any other means for getting the info/points I need.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples
