How do!
So this thread is my (probably laughable) attempt to put a hypothesis to the test.
See, despite them now long since having moved to a weekly release schedule, we’re now used to (if not universally happy) big releases, such as new Army editions being split across more than one pre-order window, some in one month, then more the next month.
My hypothesis is that GW, using the oodles of relevant data available to them via their direct sales channels, try to set the cost of such a releases “one of everything” to what their data shows to be Average Transaction Value for such a release - perhaps with an added margin.
Now of course, I can never prove they do that. Not 100%. None of us have access to that sort of data. But, what I can do, is track what “one of everything” on each such release adds up to. If, as I suspect, we see that’s actually more-or-less the same across the tracking period, then I can be more confident my suspicions are indeed correct.
I’m going to kick off with the Horus Heresy set, because it just seems opportune.
Now, here I’m expecting it to prove higher than normal, simply because it’s a whole new game. But, going off the U.K. prices?
Boxed Game - £180
Deimos Rhino - £28
Special Weapons - £26
Missile Launcher/Heavy Bolter set - £26
Kratos Heavy Tank - £75
Necessary Army Rules - £42.50
That of course weighs in at £377.50.
And….that’s it for now. Next update is likely to be the second wave for HH, but we’ve also the forthcoming Chaos Space Marine Release. Overall format is open to change for now, and as I said this first tracking is probably going to be more expensive than most.
