It's a combination of airbrushing and brush painting.
I generally painted this with the turquoise underside first, including the red-to-yellow blending that I do on a lot of models and the flourescent gun barrlels... and then masked off anything I didn't want to be covered with starscene, to avoid as much overspray as possible.
The top was painted black and then I used my airbrush for the blue, adding some red to make the mix purple, and then more red.
To prevent from adding too much paint to control the blend of colours, I dropped the pressure on the compressor so it was a slight breath of air.
because the air was passing through the airbrush so slowly, I thinned the paint a little more than usual to prevent clogging.
With the nebula cloud effect done, I blew some yellow and white spots vertically onto the model to create a feathered point of light... and used a bruch to add a white or yellow point, with smaller dots all over for stars all over the place.
With the top done, I hand painted the underside cleaning up any overspray and painting any parts I wanted to be turquoise (inside the notches, the bladed elements above and below the engine intakes, or the domes at the back of the turret), adding highlighting.
Finally the gems were painted.
I paint all the gems orange, with the exception of those on the gun barrels which get painted in blue.
Finally the gems are painted with gloss varnish so they shine in the light making them look deeper.
I played a mega game at the club this weekend, and in concert with another player, we used two Fiure Prisms with the 'Combined Fire' strategem (two attacks with no invulnerable saves allowed.
We destroyed Mortarion and a Chaos Knight, and and seriously damaged another Chaos Knight before that was destroyed by a Stormsurge.
What I learned from that game was... "I need another Fire Prism!"
I still have a number of grav tanks to do in a similar style... Three Falcons and two Wave Serpents, as well as multiple Jetbikes.
Cheers
