Or Outriders vs Sky-hunters if you want

Is there any argument for the former, besides having a mysterious unit subtype that isn't explained anywhere that I can find?

Scimitars cost 50% more points base (but actually less because their Sergeant tax is inexplicably lower) for double wounds, heavy bolters instead of twin-linked bolters and deep strike instead of scout, and have superior weapon upgrades for the same cost.

Sky hunters are better.

Skirmish is defined on page 95 of Liber Hereticus, presumably same for Liber Astartes.

It basically increases your coherency to 3" instead of 2" which has connotations for melee combat.

Coincidentally, I think that outriders are slightly better for melee combat, overall, but Sky-hunters are better for shooting, overall.

I'm on a podcast about (video) game design:

And I also stream tabletop painting/playing Mon&Thurs 8PM EST

And make YouTube videos for that sometimes!

Skirmish also improves all cover saves by 1. Which is another point for Outriders, as Sky-Hunters don't get cover saves at all, because they're Antigrav.

In addition to the above, Outriders are also able to all take power weapons and twinlinked special weapons. They're a far better close range unit. Sky hunters are better at range.
