Hi all,

do we have some clues what could be in this year Battleforce boxes?

My predictions are:

- SM there are always atleast one.
- Custodes or/and Grey Knights, there should be atleast one non SM imperial faction and since Custodes have battlebox this year and it still available in a lot of stores, I predict that they have some leftovers of them.
- Chaos or Thousand sons, like with previous factions there is always atleast one chaos related forces and both TS und CSM have some realeases lately.
- Eldars and Genestealers from Xenos, new releases and a lot in stock.
- Last one if there would be only one imperial faction, my bet is on Tyranids since they where missed last year.

What are Yours guesses/rumors?

I could see there being a Disciples of Bekalor one this year. Deamons will be dropping off their post codex bump then and they're all fairly old kits save for Bekalor himself. Bekalor would stop there being much interest in buying multiples. Looks like there's nice varied stuff on the shelf.

Would be nice if there was a Horus Heresy box.
Would be doubly nice if it came with something that wasn't in the Age of Darkness box.

I think I finally reached the point where there is nothing for 40k or Age of Sigmar that GW could offer me that would make me buy another battleforce. Like, theres things I still want/need, but the likelihood of GW bundling those things together without throwing burying them with more stuff that I already have too much of is highly unlikely.

+ Eldar – this is almost a certainty given the breadth of the last release and its timing – just old enough that the sales have likely died down, but new enough to be attractive and there's a lot to choose from.

+ Marines – I'd bet this box is co-branded as Horus Heresy. Some marines, weapon upgrade sprues, a Dreadnought, and a tank would make for a nice spread. Could actually make two: Marines + Dreads and Marines + tanks.

+ Dark Angels – Lots of rumors of the lion returning, and given Space Wolves and Blood Angels have had boxes, I wouldn't be shocked if they got a bike heavy box with upgrade sprues and the character lieutenant.

+ Genestealer Cults – They had a big second wave of releases since their last Battleforce in 2017, seems time to bundle them up.

+ Custodes – They're due.

+ Chaos Daemons – I'd be really surprised in Belakor was in this box, but could easily imagine a Dark Apostle + some collection of Daemon kits. Would be a really fun box.

Chaos Space Marines have a nice wave of new models, but they'll only have been out for a few months so I'd expect this box in 2023. The reality is that there are always a few "WTF" boxes of garbage models so it could be anything.

If you're curious, here are the ranges/release years since they kicked off this run of battleforces in 2016.

4:
Tau: 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020
Adeptus Mechanicus: 2016, 2018, 2021

3:
Marines: 2018, 2020, 2021
Necrons: 2018, 2020, 2021

2:
Tyranids: 2019, 2020
Space Wolves: 2016, 2019
Astra Militarum: 2017, 2020
CSM: 2019, 2020
Death Guard: 2018, 2021
Orks: 2017, 2021

1:
Imperial Fists: 2018
Craftworlds: 2018
Drukhari: 2019
DeathWatch: 2016
GSC: 2017
Blood Angels: 2019
Adepta Sororitas: 2021

As for when we can expect them announced, here's the historical trend:

2016 – November 15th
2017 – November 19th
2018 – November 5th (Two were teased on Warcom on Oct 28)
2019 – November 15th
2020 – November 16th
2021 – November 18th

And for once it won't be filled with old Vyper and Falcon kits!

Umm custodes got combat patrol which is standard range of part so of course there's those in stores. GW produces more.

Also what's stock is available now isn't that relevant seeing contents are cast specifically for the release. They don't use existing stock to do these...

I agree that it is highly unlikely they would repackage some boxes. The cost of labor is way higher than just casting up some new sprues.

I wouldn't mind a chapter specific battle box. Could also imagine a box filled to the brim with the new Deathkorps and some leman Russ tanks.

Interesting would be if they do a Horus heresy box, as it must compete with the still available launch box.

A Custodes box that has 10 Wardens and 6-9 Bikes would be cool. As would an Eldar one with some Guardians, a pair of Fire Prisms, an Avatar and at least 6 Shining Spears.

No I'm not just listing the things I want personally...

I think the most sense would be if GW made an IG, WE, Votan and Demon battleforce as those are going to be the newest books out.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Battleforces offer a saving, Votann are too new to be sold at a discount as they fly off the shelves themselves.

With all the promo boxs made for new updated factions I think that GW could and will do one to, now what ever it will be a battle force or something else, that is going to be a GW decision. But they lose nothing over trying to sell big boxs of stuff people want. And unlike with some other factions, mostly marines, GW can't be sure how long the hype is going to last.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

At least one, possibly two, Marine boxes to shift stock. Then another Imperial faction, maybe Guard or Custodes plus a Chaos (Tsons maybe) and a Xenos (T'au or Drukhari perhaps).

Too new and doubly too new. Given they're usually infantry heavy, there really isn't anything to put in a box that isn't in the AoD box beyond a sicaran, rhino or leviathan.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Shift what stock?

The sprues are made for the boxes...

Gw wouldn't even have enough sprues just lying around...

I remember an old GW employee saying that the Battleforces are based off the best selling armies of the year. Whether that still holds true remains to be seen.

GW basically never does battleforces for new factions or stuff that had a major rerelease/resculpt, unless its in the starter box (i.e. Necrons and Space Marines this edition, Death Guard and Space Marines last edition). The last time they did was Gloomspite Gits and arguably Orks (but only for the new Ork boyz kit that nobody wanted, everything else in there was an older mini), but other than that if the faction had a major release/rerelease in the previous 12 months it basically means that they aren't getting a battleforce. Sisters and Lumineth both had to wait ~2 years after release to get their first battleforce, so I wouldn't expect to see Votann get a battleforce before 2024 or 2025. Same with the upcoming World Eaters and safe to assume probably also the guard.

On that basis, you can probably scratch Craftworlds off the list.

Daemons are a likely candidate, simply because they are all old models. Genestealer Cults are another candidate, again older models (many of which haven't been in a battleforce before due to newer minis being released after their last battleforce). This might be the year for Orks to get a Beastclaw themed battleforce, but those minis are still somewhat fresh so we shall see on that. Tau seem to get a box every year so thats certainly a possibility too.

I think theres caveats and exceptions on that. Theres no way that Sisters weren't one of the best sellers the year they came out, but they didn't get a box until much later.

That is definitely true. Even if Votann sells like hot cakes I can't imagine seeing them in a Christmas battleforce. I kind of imagine that anything that sold well 6 months or more before Christmas has a chance of being in a box. Anything else probably doesn't make the cut.

However, this is all guesswork on my part. Will be exciting to see what gets a Battleforce.

Maybe he has some secret news about plastic custodes kits coming out for w30k, and just forgot that he shouldn't be talking about them here. I seen guys argue about a rule for few post until some Mod ends up deleting the whole thing, because they were talking about playtest rules or rules from a book that wasn't even anounced yet.

I assume he was being facetious as anything he marked as "JUST" having certain weapons would 100% require them to literally chop up the sprues for that to be possible, something I am assuming he is aware of.

I think given his psoting history we can safely conclude Fezzik doesn't have inside information.

A horus Heresy box seems unlikely given all the new kits, unless it's something like a mix of MK III MK IV and drop pods or something...

which honestly wouldn't be the worst thing. 20 MK III marines, 20 MK IV and 4 drop pods.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
