Hi guys, not too long ago I qualified to get the goodies from my local GW store as detailed in this link -

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/01/02/celebrate-store-anniversaries-in-2023-with-a-kahl-an-admiral-an-anthology-and-warhammer-swag/

- search for “Store Anniversary Extras” to find the section.

But I’m fairly clueless on what a chunk of the cardboard pieces are meant for. I emailed GW but it’s been over two weeks so I don’t like my odds of getting an answer, so I’m hoping maybe one of you can help.

The points tray is obvious, use D6 dice to count various army related things. The cardboard circle dials are for counting whatever you want (so long as it’s 0 through 59, lol).

But the thin, green pieces that come as two straights, a ninety degree angle and an x or + bracket are my first puzzle. The straight and corner seem like just tools to get terrain to line up but the x bracket wouldn’t let multiple terrain pieces touch so that doesn’t seem to be it.

Then the large circles look like blast templates but they’re too big for that AFAIK. The WH40K one is 7.5” diameter while the AoS one is 12”, GW’s plastic templates on their site I believe are 2” or 3” and then 5”. Each being a flat dice tray would be odd as they are different sizes.

Any thought?

I think the circles are objectives, and I wonder if the others are unit coherency or engagement range?

The circles could be objectives, but at 7.5” and 12” they’d be huge!

The other bits don’t make sense for coherency unfortunately. The straight pieces measure 3 7/16” long, the x pieces 2.5” and ninety degree corners measure 2.25” on either side.

So they’re all too long for that.

A shame since they seem to be perfectly shaped for that.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
GW just replied, they didn’t say what the skinny pieces are for (though I did send another mail off asking on that), but they did confirm the large circles are meant to represent objectives and their control area.

For 40K that’s 3” radius for the most part (or at least the email said that) so that adds. But dang, Sig land likes big objectives.

Thank you for your suggestions beast_gts.

I think they're for marking deployment zones/table quarters/etc..

When I was talking to my local store manager in the run up to their anniversary, he did mention that the bits you're confused by were to help mark deployment zones.

I agree with HBMC, I've seen other games (mostly Fantasy Flight) use the "L" shape for defining deployment areas.

The thin lines are probably "charge" markers (put them down to indicate a charge) or otherwise used for measuring piles in or combat reach.

It never ends well

The objective markers show where you need to be to get into range of the objective. The 40K objectives are 40mm wide and you need to be within 3" to hold it, so that's the 7.5" circle. In sigmar, objectives are specific points that you need to be within 6" of, so that's the 12" circle.
