We have the rules 10th edition, we have the index for SM and SW. Unfortunately we are at the bottom of the barrel compared to other chapters. Our dedicated close combat units are out classed by their equivalents in other armies too. Am I missing something special, or are we stuck like this until we get a codex?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
We lost all melee weapon options for Wolf Guard (Vanguard Vets with JP), Wulfen, and Thunderwolf Cavalry. Heirloom weapon is a terrible replacement for TH, PF, and LC.

Blood claws have to charge just to get the same number of attacks that regular Assault squad has base, and pale in comparison to Death company marines.

Grey hunters are alright.

Agreed. Wholly disappointed with "heirloom weapons" on all of the powered armor vets & "wulfen hammers".

At least we can use the Gladius detachment. We would finely get apothecaries, but can't attach them to anything codex space wolf.

Imho, Thunderwolves are the only decent melee unit we have other then terminators. Invader ATV, and attack bike squads can support Thunderwolf Calvary with Outrider Escort. That's an interesting interaction. Assault Doctrine can give them advance and charge. Harold or Canis buffs their attacks. A Lord on TH can help with +1 advance/charge and stratagems. Thunderwolves give +1 damage to any characters that join the unit too!
Death star unit:
Canis + WGBL on TH with LCs + 6 Thunderwolves with SS = a lot of S5, D2 attacks with SUSTAINED HITS 1 and LETHAL HITS*

*if you get to charge

Hounds of Moraki look really spicy, I'm glad I have a unit of them painted up.

I think Thunderwolves are still good value for the price, lots of attacks still. Won't be punking tanks anymore, but great fast anti-infantry units.

Canis isn't a Wolf Lord (Captain). He cannot have a WGPL.

Any idea why the WGPL have 1 less attack than normal WG?

Ex: WGPL in Term Twin Lightning Claws A:4, WG Term Twin LC A:5

And for that matter, Blood Claws have 1 less attack than Assault Squad marines. Yeah they have the Berserk Charge ability but that still only takes them up to Assault Squad level of attacks...

It's dumb, but it's probably because the WGPL is a sergeant equivalent. They are not worth it imho. inspiring leader is a once per game ability that only lets you reroll a test

Looking back at the index with point cost now. An advantage Blood claws have over regular Assault Squads is numbers. Blood claws 15 models 210pts / Assault Squads 10 models 190pts.
Thunderwolf Calvary 6 models 200pts, Nice but compared to Blade Guard 6 models 200pts, it makes me sad.

Positive Idea!

Gladius detachment:
Captain in Terminator armor + Bolter Discipline + Combi-weapon
Wolf guard Terminators (max) + Combi-weapons

Devastator Doctrine + Oath of Moment + Stratagem Storm of Fire (Captain) + Bolter Discipline + Deep Strike + Combi-weapon = A lot of damage?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Devastator Doctrine triggers Storm of Fire and Bolter Discipline (Ignore Cover, - 1ap, Sustained Hits 1, +5 Critical Hits). Oath of Moment triggers Terminators (rerolls hits/wounds, +1 to hit). Deep strike close to trigger rapid fire. Then score critical wounds on a +4 against infantry with rerolls! Let the mortal wounds roll in!

*edited +1 to hit does not combo with sustained hits.

Positive Idea!

WGPL in Terminator armor can take heavy weapon in any squad now. Give him a cyclone missile launcher and put him in a squad of grey hunters.
Sniper Scouts are also a great choice now! Give them a Missile Launcher and you have a unit that can threaten Characters and take pot shot at vehicles.

My idea is:
3 WGPL in terminator / cyclone
3 grey hunter 5man squads
3 Sniper scouts 5man / missile launcher
3 Long fangs 5man squads / heavy weapons galore
I think it makes a good starting point for an army.

I have the special 'Haldor Icepelt' model that came with Tooth and Claw (and the SW Combat Patrol). Before he had a power axe and bolt carbine but I don't see any model with those options. It looks like the closest I can get is a Wolf Guard Pack Leader with boltgun and power weapon - does that seem right?
