Subject: the Regal Hunt, Britonnia space wolf army, Thunderwolves 2.0
I recently started Warhammer 40K and I decided to build a Space Wolves army. But instead of that shade of blue and yellow accents I'm going for more colorful scheme and a aesthetic that's a mix of medieval knights and 15th to 16th century Landsknecht/Doppelsöldner. Eventually I'd like to come up with a story for this chapter, I have this funny idea of a chapter of space marines that speak in a Posh British accent, are Flamboyantly dressed like Landsknecht, and aspire to become priest blessed by the god emperor's canis helix. Their planet is effectively Valhalla in the warp. They primarily wage war with mounted cavalry, war hounds, and Priests (wulfen).
I will update this post with new photos. Pictures are smaller for the forum, click on them for the original size.
WIP Wulfen High Priest, count as Wolf Lord on thunder wolf with TH/SS [spoiler]
If the argument for their uniqueness is spamming Wulfen and Thunderwolves, then it wasn't really a unique army to begin with whether you like it or not.
Excellent stuff but I don't really see Landsknecht being associated with Space Wolves. Black Templars would be far more likely but don't let me tell you how to do your hobby.

It is an oath we honour. Looking really good on the sculpting front, but that midman's sword arm looks too long. A normal human has arms that reach down to the middle of their thighs, not knees like some simians' arms.
Hi, there are 3 reasons I chose Space Wolves over black Templar or blood angels.
1. Adding wolf guard to a unit of blood claws would act as a Doppelsöldner.
2. Dreadnoughts with axes and shields look cool
3. I'm really into power metal, and the band Power Wolf has some awesome posters and album covers that would fit Wulfen perfectly!
Makes sense and looks cool I was intrigued as much as anything.

Current progress has been slow on the modeling front. I have finished modeling a second robe on a wulfen model and started on the pack leader. I tried 3 different methods for the robes thus far.
The first time I just grabbed some green stuff, stretched it out to shape and slapped it on the model. I achieved the look and flow of the robe flowing behind the model but there were a lot of finger prints and it does look rushed.
On the second try I slowly added green stuff to the figure to mold the robe little by little. It looks a lot cleaner but it doesn't have the same look of action the first one had.
For my third try I looked up some videos and came across a method of spreading the green stuff on some nonstick surface into shape and the placing it on the model. I like how it came out the most compared to the other tries.

To keep it easy for me modeling figures, I'm sticking to wysiwyg. My wolf Lord, wolf guard battle leader, and Venable dreadnoughts will be my Doppelsöldner!
I love the uniform look of space marine armor but I still wanted to attempt to make every model unique, and Landsknecht had incredibly unique look to there clothing with vibrant colors and designs.
I want to figure out how to create plumes of feathers to stick on helmets, and hang tapestries on the side of Razorbacks and my dreadnoughts.

Small update, please don't lock this thread I will be uploading some more pictures soon. I have been busy with work and moving but I have bought new models and completed some more models but have not started to paint yet. I'll put up a full army picture later today.

Here is my wolf lord on a Thunder Wolf WIP, I have done more then what you will see here but I'm uploading on the go. Also excuse the poor grammar/spelling, I have a terrible habit of not proof reading.

Quick update, here are two pics of the changes i'm making to my wolf lord, Instead of carrying a hammer and sword he will be holding a flag and the reins on the wolf. I'll place the hammer on his left hip and a shield on his right arm with the flag.
Spoiler:
The flag was my first attempt with a wire inside to give it strength but I made it too thin. I already have a 2nd one made and i'm just waiting for it to dry. I really like the regal look of it.

Master of the Hounds WIP part 2
Some more progress, I'm extremely happy with how it's coming along! The 2nd flag looks much better then the first, no wire this time I just made it thicker to keep its shape, but I did have a hard time getting it to stay on the flag pole. I made the mistake of gluing the hand on the pole first, preventing it from lying flat on the table making it hard to attach the flag. Next i'm attaching the shield and hammer, then on the arms I'll add some green stuff to make it look like the arms you see on
a Doppelsöldner.

Some really amazing stuff here. Love the change to the head position for the Thunder Wolf. It really changes the whole dynamic of the model and makes it less 'Thunder Wold but with a different Space Marine on top', whilst still maintaining the essence of Space Wolf.
I also really like what you've done to the Wulfen. A simple idea, but it makes them look a load better and somewhat mysterious as they should be.

Thanks man! The inspiration for the Wulfen is from Powerwolf album covers
Spoiler:
I have 6 more Wulfen to do but i'll finish my wolf lord first.

So far I added feathers to the helmet, I tried some different ways to make them, but they looked wrong. I settled on my own approach and while I love the results, I'll be the first to admit that they could pass as plant leaves lol.

This is a seriously cool army, I love it. Really unique. I wish there were more words to describe how inspiring your work is. This is what the hobby should be all about for me, taking something, adding your own take, and executing it to perfection. Well done Sir.
Will each one be painted slightly differently?

Wow thanks, That means a lot coming from you! I just saw your project and I'm hella inspired!
When it comes to painting I have been looking up different paint schemes. The plan so far is for each squad to have unique color combinations but then I need to figure out how to make it still look like a cohesive force.

I think the best place to look for painting inspiration believe it or not is the old WFB Bretonnians. Their army book had every knight individually painted but yet remained cohesive in its diversity. If you could add a consistent chapter embroidery to the puff and slash sleeves, that could potentially be enough
