I really think it would be a fun idea that if a vehicle doesn't "pop" it remains in place for the rest of the game, where it died, and becomes cover/obstacles.

It would really cause havok if your IG tank rush got blunted by a busted Salamander/Taurox that does in the choke point turn 1.

On the flip side, the infantry sloggers would get free cover for advancing across the board.

I'd be fine with it.

Not sure how long you've been into 40k, Fezzik, but this is actually how things used to work. Personally, I think it's neat and like how it can change up the appearance of the battlefield over time.

The downsides are that:
A. Not everyone wants opponent models climbing over your own wrecked models. It's kind of half a step away from touching your opponent's models.

B. Depending on implementation, this could potentially create large, impassible areas on the battlefield. Imagine not being able to move a rhino out of your deployment zone because there's a wall on either side of you, and your land raider got wrecked in front of you.

. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Ooh, I like this idea! But maybe you should still leave the option to blow up the wrecked vehicle despite it already being destroyed, since otherwise you might indeed end up with impassable bottlenecks on the board?

Yep, they happen in war, by design. Ambushes which cause vehicles to get stuck in bottlenecks and prevent advances are a tactical option. The rules allow the wreck to be climbed over though.

I like that idea. Vehicles vanishing into the ether always felt odd to me.

If it's "Deadly Demise" goes off, then the vehicle is removed, otherwise it's a wreck (and is now terrain).

But only if the model can finish a move all the way to the other side (unless you want to trash someone's nicely painted model). Combine that with the inability to further destroy the wreck or nearby terrain to clear a path and wreckage becomes too much of an impassible obstacle. And on the kind of dense tables 10th edition requires that's getting very close to "lose a vehicle and concede on turn 1" territory. Destroying the lead vehicle in an ambush was a viable delaying tactic, not a permanent barrier to any movement ever through that location.

If you house-rule the wreck staying, also house-rule its removal or pass-through/over.
Maybe make an action from a sufficiently capable unit to blast the wreck apart, or flip it out of the way.
