I am in a bit of a pickle, for a project i am planing as an allied detachment i need to have the rules answered as to if Scyllax guardian automata with their sub type can join say a Auxilia Magos and his squad.

As far as i know their subtype allows them to join squads with models that have the charachter subtype, e.g. every squad that has an sergant equivalent so to speak, is that correct?

I think so? Not 100% sure, since usually only Independent Characters can join, but Guardian type seems to allow for that.

That's my point, it seems, wierd, but as written i can field an auxilia magos, and slap some scyllaxis es? into that squad.

I had to go an look it up as i'm not familiar with Mechaniucm rules, but having read the entries for the relevant squads and the Guardian unit type, i'd say that yes you could take Scyllax with the Magos Auxilia. It seems like one of those things where you should shouldn't be able too as it's a squad joining another squad, rather then the normal instance of an IC joining a squad. Or even an Apothecary/Techmarine situation.

Might even be worth hitting up GW customer support and asking for clarification. But to me I'd say you're pretty safe to go ahead and do it.

The issue with that is, since i own the german book, that it is written in a Way that specifically refers to independent charachters and or charachtersubtype.

And more importantly you can attach the independant charachter to an auxilia unit with the attached scyllax.

So i was curious specifically about that specification: IC and charachter modell subtype and if that is just an uncautious translation or indeed also the case of the guardian type in english.

But yeah i guess i may need to throw an E-Mail to gw.
