Subject: [LI] Best place to learn about Legion Imperialis - model sizes, base sizes, color schemes...

So I can't seem to make heads or tails of the GW site information on LI (and maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place?). I've inhereted a few 3d printed models in the Epic scale, and would love to paint them up to match a friend's set of LI. I have four small-ish titans (around the size of a Space Marine or a tiny bit bigger, 35mm from the bottom of the feet to the top of the carapace, on 30mm bases) and one larger titan (55cm tall, no base), and 3 land raiders. I have a bunch of wee marines, but they may be just a tiny bit too big, and look odd alongside the other marines, so too bad so sad for those guys (they're like 12mm)
so I reckon my main questions are:
- What could the 35mm Titans proxy as?
- What could the 55mm Titan proxy as? What size base should this fellow be on?
- Are there Land Raiders in LI, and would 3 consitute a unit?
And bonus question: do I just paint up the Titans however I like, or is it recommended that they somehow match the faction being played? It often looks like they're painted to stand out from the army (and perhaps therefore could serve in different factions!)

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did. |

Firstly, the new website is crap so is difficult to navigate, but there is a Legions section on there (at least with the products listed) if you search.
That sounds like you have the original Epic titans (Beetlebacks and Reavers, 35mm sounds like it might be the Warhound?) GW themselves have said that old/original minis are still 'legal' (for what that's worth, I guess if you want to play in official events/tournaments) however they are significantly smaller than the modern Titans which were first released for Adeptus Titanicus and are now used for Legions. They'll also look too small compared to modern infantry and vehicles, but again nothing to stop you using them and if you don't have any modern Titans on that battlefield it won't look as jarring.
In terms of proxying, if you wanted to use them as something other than Titans, perhaps you could use them as Knights? (Certainly the Warhounds would be around the right size).
Paint-schemes for them, if you like up Titan Legions and then a site like Lexicanum or just spend some time looking through Google Images, there are some main Legios (Metalica/Iron Skulls, Mortis/Death Heads, Gryphonicus etc) but lots of people also go with their own designs.
12mm infantry might be slightly too big depending on the design- the newly released Legions marine infantry are just about 10mm so they might be OK? I have some printed marine designs of about that size that are in bulky MK2 armour, and it kind of suits them being slightly bigger than the more streamlined Mk6/beaky design you get with the Legions infantry. So again YMMV there - it's quite a subjective thing how you view different scales in a force, and there are a lot of varying opinions on what is acceptable (although ultimately - it's your army and collection!)

To be honest its all perfectly usable as you learn the game and decide if you want to go further with it
if titans are smaller, scale terrain accordingly and job done

Thanks all for your input. I reckon I'll need to set them side by side with LI titans to get a better sense of where they might fit.
So obvious I'm a bit embarrassed I didn't do it straight away... Anyhow, here's the five dudes I have, with some Reaper Bones humanoids added for scale. Two smaller titans with a double-barrelled something and chainsaw, two smaller titans with a long-gun on each arm, and a bigger tital with a big gun and a chainsaw.
