Like, why? Angron was already unstable, hateful of the Emperor, an donkey-cave to his sons, and an overall poor commander who just Zerg-rush everyone into the enemy without much strategy.

Easy solution. Bash Angron's head in. Give Guilliman the World Eater. It's a win - win for everyone. The Great Crusade is moving faster because there are more Ultramarines (unlike other Legion, the World Eater doesn't recruit primarily from a single core world, so they wouldn't have the tribal mentality to unitedly take up arms to avenge their Primarch), Angron is released from his suffering, his Legion wouldn't be abused by their gakky father, the Emperor has one fewer maniacal son to worry about (there is still Curze, but that guy was more of a dumbass than having intentional malice) and Chaos would be robbed of a potential ally.

Because Angron was useful, in theory.
And the Emperor was loathe to throw away potentially useful tools.

Because the lore about the broad strokes of the heresy was written long before Heresy Street started filling in the details. They can’t do anything major to the final outcome, they are just filling in random character arcs to fill the time.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Sometimes, you just need a Wrecking Ball.

We can also keep in mind that “we can’t remove the Butcher’s Nails”, at a time when Crusade Fleets are recovering forgotten tech should probably be read as “we can’t remove the Butcher’s Nails yet.

And he would have one less maniac to trigger the marines culling each other once their job is done ala thunder warriors.

You think his plan was to let marines live once the crusade is done?

I suspect that the Emperor would not kill Angron even if he felt he was too dangerous to give him command of a legion.

Primarchs demonstrated that they could be used to correct gene flaws arising in their Space Marine progeny. It would have been more sensible to stick Angron into stasis or the mother of all padded cells than kill him outright.

Also? Conquering the whole Galaxy is a staggeringly huge task.

At the very worst? Angron could’ve been sent off into something akin to the Ghoulstars, as it’s suggested might be been the fate of one of the missing Legions. A proper “this is a one way ticket, you go mess them up son” type mission.

Getting rid of Angron would be like spending thousands of pounds building your dream home, finding a broken pipe, and then burning the entire thing to the ground.

In the grand scheme of things 19 sane Primarchs and 1 nutter who kills real good are good odds. If Angron went too bonkers, his brothers would be lining up to whack his head off. Well, except Lorgar but he'd be second on the list anyway.

His (Terran) Librarians were keeping him under wraps and could soothe and put him to sleep when things got too out of hand.. Until, y'know- the Gehenna massacre and they found out how to replicate the Nails legion-wide. The Librarians were REALLY against this, so no surprise that they had to die. Emps admitted to Arkhan Land he COULD remove the nails from Angron, buuuut- it's replaced his limbic system, so the nails were keeping him (mostly) alive, yet slowly killing him.

One headcannon theroy that's a bit out there: Angron's pre-Nails Psyker ability was to be empathic and calm others, which he did to his fellow gladiators. Then, there's the whole thing with the Starchild; of Emps removing his sense of compassion.... Hmm?

Post Hersey analysis indicates the Emperor made a number of staggering bad decisions when it came to the Primarchs. It would seem that despite his cold and calculating demeanor, the Emperor held some measure of “affection” for his “sons” that keep him from making the most logical decisions in many instances.

Maybe a dumb question: But is he even capable after Angron Turned? I mean, by that point he's a semi-sentient husk that is just a warp enitiy. Granted a super powerful Goku level one, but still. He can't just mind assassinate from across the galaxy, can he? I mean, he puppet controlled Bobby G in smacking Morty around, but that's not the same.

Getting rid of a Daemon is hard, proper hard. They all have their "true name" (which isn't Angron BTW) and in the case of the Primarchs, it seems to be the name the Emperor intended for them before their scattering.
Of course, the only person who knows those names is Big E himself, and possibly some deep dark library dungeon on Titan.
But using a "true name" is a huge use of power and can't just be uttered by your average Joe Guardsman.

Not killing him only looks dumb in hindsight with perfect information.

Him being damaged goods is regrettable of course, but a damaged primarch is still useful. He can still hit stuff and provide a source of genes for his legion. And while zerg rushing marines is wasteful, results were what matters so the World Eaters having a high attrition rate wasn't an issue for the Emperor. And its not like he cared how the rank and file were being treated.

If the Emperor knew what problems Angron would cause, yeah he probably would kill him. But then he'd probably do a lot of things differently...
